Ukrainian Clubs in UEFA Champions League 2007/2008

Qualifying has begun. Shakthar has been placed in the 2nd qualifying round while Dynamo is in the 3rd qualifying round. Shakhtar's opponent will be either Derry City or Pyunik.

Derry City 0-0 Pyunik in the 1st leg. Nothing is determined for Shakhtar yet.

Watched the game on TV... Pretty boring, just like i expected it to be... Pyunik seemed to have better technique (ball control, passing etc), while the Irish were physically stronger... Although there were very few clear cut chances in the 90 minutes, if someone did deserv to win this in the end, it should've probably been Derry City...
Have little doubt Pyunik will play a much more attacking football at home and if Derry manages to sneak one goal in they just might progress to the next round. But i still fancy Pyunik to go through in the end.... 60/40 for them...

Will Shakhtar roll over either one in spite of their current form?

Shakhtar's gunna beat any of those two by at least 3 goals aggregate. Especially with Lucarreli, shiiit.

I heard when I was watching the Shakhtar - Dynamo game that Lucarelli won't make his debut for a month, so he migh miss those games.... But I agree, they should ruin either one... Though you never know, they're so unstable in Europe... I support them as a Ukrainian club, but it seems to me as though every victory they've ever gotten (or most) has been by luck or through some flukey way, and every time they've lost its usually involved them collapsing... I donno, I'm just uncomfortable with them.. With Dynamo you get more consistency, even with Dnipro...

Btw, does anyone else notice we're always playing Armenian clubs or NT? Its as if every year one of our clubs is playing an Armenian team, or our NT is playing Armenia... 06/07 was probably the first year since independance we didn't play them in something.

Lucarelli might make his debut against Zorya on July 27. So I think he'll definitely be available to play in CL qualifying.

Kozak, Shakhtar reached the spring stage of European tournaments for the past two years, while Dynamo did indeed "collapse"

From what i saw against Dynamo,Shakhtar is goping nowwhere this season in europe, the central back duo is too weak as rat is very poor defending. No class half back also......to summarize it a pretty average team for european standarts.

Dynamo have more chances but the coach sucks literaly so i guess it will be a pretty poor year for ukraine in european cups but waiting for shaklhtar and dynamo next games.

Yea, but every team has bad years, even the best. But in Shakhtars case, this is the way they've always been. (I'm not trying to insult them).
