Olexandr Gladkyi

Though we'd have a thread about this promising striker... In a reply to the post in the Shakhtar thread whether he's the youngest player to top the league top scorers chart, Yes he is!

1992 - Yuriy Hudymenko (Tavria) - 12 goals at the age of 26
1993 - Sehiy Husyev (Chornomorets) - 17 goals at the age of 26
1994 - Timerlan Husyeynov (Chornomorets) - 18 goals at the age of 25
1995 - Arsen Avakov (Torpedo Z) - 21 goals at the age of 24 (Tajikistan)
1996 - Timerlan Husyeynov (Chornomorets) - 20 goals at the age of 27
1997 - Oleh Matveev (Shakhtar) - 21 goals at the age of 27
1998 - Serhiy Rebrov (Dynamo) - 22 goals at the age of 24
1999 - Andriy Shevchenko (Dynamo) - 18 goals at the age of 23
2000 - Maxim Shatskikh (Dynamo) - 20 goals at the age of 22 (Uzbekistan)
2001 - Andriy Vorobei (Shakhtar) - 21 goals at the age of 23
2002 - Serhiy Shyschenko (Metalurh D) - 12 goals at the age of 26
2003 - Maxim Shatskikh (Dynamo) - 22 goals at the age of 25 (Uzbekistan)
2004 - Georgi Demetradze (Dynamo) - 18 goals at the age of 28 (Georgia)
2005 - Olexandr Kosyrin (Chornomorets) - 14 goals at the age of 28
2006 - Brandao/Okoduwa (Shakhtar/Arsenal) - 15 goals scored at the age of 26/23 (Brazil/Nigeria)
2007 - Olexandr Hladkyi (FC Kharkiv) - 12 goals at the age of 19

Shevchenko scored 16 and came 2nd in 1996 at the age of 20... At the age of 19 Sheva only scored once in 17 league matches.
So yeah, Hladkyi in this aspect is a record breaker...

P.S. There might be some differences in ages since some of the players were born after May/June and so technically were one year younger than i specified, but it doesnt affect the overall picture that Hladkyi is the UPL youngest ever top scorer...

Anudder pair yesterday by the youngster...

I hope Bloxin is taking note and considering naming the youngster in the National Team squad for the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers.

How about someone changing the thread subject to his real name????

He's certainly an exciting prospect - sometimes a transfer to Shakhtar or Dynamo can be the kiss of death for a promising young player, but this guy is taking his chance and that could be great for the national team as Sheva gets older and players like Vorobiy fade away.

Players like Vorobey faded away a long time ago to be fair... Of course it's great that he's finally decided to move on. I definitely have more respect for him than Belyk now. He had the balls to take on a challenge even if it costs him a bit financially. Although i wish im wrong, i doubt he'll ever return his form of early 2000's when he was scoring 20+ goals a season...

2 games - 2 goals for Vorobey. I don't think we should count write him off. He is what 28-29? I'm glad he moved. It's time for Belyk to move!

By the way, does anyone have Hladky's early career bio?

There arent much information about Hladkyi around, but if yousearch FC Kharkiv's, Metalist's, and Komanda's websites, im sure you will find some interesting interviews where he reviels his past and tells more about himself...

Well, if Gladkyi stays consistent then Ukraine have a very descent attacking trio with Voronin-Sheva-Gladkyi.

I really hope Hladkiy will live up to his expectations. It would be great to see him as the next Shevchenko.
