Blokhin Issues Quit Threat

Ukraine coach Oleg Blokhin has threatened to resign unless restrictions are placed on the number of overseas players in the domestic Premier League.

There has been a sharp rise in the number of overseas names playing in the country's top flight, with clubs such as Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk adding several Brazilian and African players to their squad lists in recent years.

Blokhin told Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper: "My resignation could happen because it's very hard to build a strong national team when we have no players.

"We use 20-22 players, and half of them don't play in the first team at their club."

Blokhin has been in charge of the national team since September 2003, and led Ukraine to the quarter-final stage at last year's World Cup in Germany.

THERE should be a limit like 2or3

Well I don't think they can really impose something like this midseason. Weren't they going to change it for next season? I don't think they would go as low as 2 or 3, but perhaps 4 or 5. Isn't the limit now 7?

I also heard English league is going to start imposing restrictions on foreigners

Agreed. Come to Dynamo Oleg!! Would love to see a team of 7/8 Ukrainians again, like in the 98/99 starting lineups.

Dynamo Kyiv are better than Shakhtar Donnetsk!

I agree with Blokhin on this. I have no problem with foreigners playing, but for the sake of Ukrainian football they have to give playing time to the younger Ukrainians in order to develop talent. Especially when you consider that most of the foreigners on UPL teams are of poor quality. So you might as well play the younger Ukrainians even if they are inexperienced.

I think it should be upped a bit, maybe 5 Ukrainians must be playing in the starting lineup at all times. And at least 60% of the entire squad must be Ukrainian. Yea, I know people are going to say bla bla Arsenal has foreigners, bla bla Chelsea, bla bla... But we're not England, we're not Chelsea, and etc.... It's different in Ukraine, and our clubs are different from big WE clubs. They always were and they always will be.

5-6 is the correct number, and is not that Dynamo or Shakhtar can or will win the Cl with 10 or 11 foreigners like Arsenal or Chelsea and liverpool

Yea, cos' the foreigners who go to DK or SD are on average much worse... Of course, there's some that are good quality, like Correa, Rincon, Shatskikh.. But there's many other who are just awful. If we do go far in the CL soon it won't be with a bunch of foreigners... They wouldn't have the skill, passion, heart, or anything..

Skill?some of them have,passion and heart?no!

The skill makes the difference in the uke league but then in the european cups you need more than that.

And only if a Abramovich appears in the uke league you can have the best foreigners going to there,Akhmetov spend some money but isn't so much like that by european standarts.

I'd prefer to see DK with 7/8/9 Ukrainians, or a few less but only Slavic/EE foreigners but at this given time I know that isn't reall possible .

(Experimental lineup)

---Shovkovsky---
Nesmachny -- Fedorov -- Mandziuk -- Markovic
--Husyev -- Mykhalyk--
Rebrov ---------- Rincon
Milevsky --- Shatskikh

8 Ukrainians, 1 Serb, 1 Uzbek (Who's in blood a Slavic), 1 Brazilian... That lineup seems strong to me. Even if it isn't as strong as European elites on paper, there's no way it would lose like DK lost this year in the CL.
