Arsenal Kyiv

It looks like Arsenal Kyiv have gone bankrupt and there is a discussion taking place as to whether or not they will compete in the league next season. This may mean a reprieve for Volyn Lutsk who finished in the 2nd relegation place.

It's very similar to the Poligraftekhnika situation a few years ago, but this time I don't think there is any corruption involved.

To me it says that football franchising doesn't work and that people shouldn't be allowed simply just to buy a place in the UPL without any football history or culture in the domestic game.

Omelchenko did it for the politics and now there's no Omelchenko there will be no Arsenal - he should never have done it in the first place and has ruined a club (CSKA) that appeared twice in European competitions and, while not having many supporters and a infrastructure in need of financing, one which produced some great Ukrainian players (Kosyrin, Zakarliuka, Tkachenko, Kirlyk, Reva etc).

It was announced today that Arsenal will be sold by the City. The price is not determined yet. According to Kiev's deputy Mayor, there are buyers who want to laundry their dirty money. Allright, I added the very last part.

So, Obolon after all will remain in the UFL? :dielaugh: or maybe they will target Zorya now?

Well, unless Obolon buys Arsenal - what a weird combination that will be! Instead of 100 fans for each home game, there will be 200 now!

Why doesn't Arsenal go back to its old roots CSCA Kyiv??

Cadets + Gooners seems to be about the right equation.

And if you think that the Arsenal/Obolon combo might put a strain on crowd behaviour then the Arsenal/CSCA would surely not make a dent into any traffic jam at the ticket gate.

The experiment of *MFK* where the the municipal town leaders make money off football is a total failure...

1. Arsenal Kyiv
2. MFK Zhytomyr (folded)
3. MFK Oleksandria (probably will not field a team next season)

Tsom! Tsom!

& Bye Bye!

From Kyiv!!!

So any news on this Arsenal Kyiv scenario? There is some potential here, because not only is it a club based in the city capital (potential fan base, and some borrowed infastructure) but also its a spot in the UPL.
