On the other hand, even at this age Im sure he would've helped the team... we need a quality right back

P.S. Some "big" and "not-so-big" names didnt make it in the end

Startsev (Kryvbas) - big surprise
Kernozenko (Dnipro) - some were expecting him to be our #2 and he didnt even make #3
Serebrennikov (Charleroi, Belgium) - personnaly for me its not a surprise
Kosyrin (Metalurh D) - hard to choose between him and Belik, but in the end Belik always performed better on the international level
Shevchuk (Shakhtar) - doubt it all the way...
Radchenko (Dnipro) - kind of surpise
Matiukhin (Dnipro) - well we dont need another player in his position

and finally two big ones:

Shyschenko (Metalurh Z) - BIG SURPRISE! We have only one playmaker now
Gai (Illichivets) - HUGE SURPRISE!!!! IM SHOCKED!!!

Shyschenko, Gai & Kosirin should have been in this team. Blokha made a mistake here. Did he even try Gai? I don't recall him playing in any serious games for UNT.

Why not get Skripnik out of retirement as well. Bl**dy Brilliant, Chyhrynsky, Pyatov and Milevskiy all got a call up; didn;t expect Pyatov to be named although he did keep Vorskla to a large no. of clean sheets through the season. Looks like Rybka will be the first choice in the under-21s, he can get some good game time there

Hahaha no Aliev, i laugh because only a couple of days ago Aliev spoke about being ready for the World Cup Squad and anticipating to be called up.

No Kosyrin, Shyschenko and Vehnlinskiy. But I guess Vehn has lost his form since going to AEK and I'm not suprised he isn't there.

Belik is in - Next Sheva

BTW Roman, when is the final day for injury list players?

I think Blokhin got the squad right for the most part. Here's my response to some previous posts:

Venhlinsky - 3 league goals the entire season = no call-up
Kosyrin - Boring play for Metalurh D (not NT material considering the strikers avail)
Gai - Needs to play at another club to be considered imo. From what i saw 1 year ago, he wasnt ready for the NT.
Startsev - wasnt he injured recently?
Kernozenko - perhaps hes too immobile these days?
Serebrennikov - hasnt played well for Charleroi apparently
Shevchuk - hasnt gotten the caps from shakhtar
Radchenko - suprise to me as well...not sure if svidersky is better
Matiukhin - hasnt gotten the caps from dnipro (4 caps all season), injured?
Oleg Luzhny - retired from international football 3 years ago..

Kernozenko has achieved (or is near to) some record by the number of minutes without conceding a goal... So thats probably the only change i would make to the squad: add Kernozenko, remove Pyatov... But if you think about it... Sasho is #1, Shust #2, what are the chacnes that u'll need a #3 keeper? next to none... kernozenko is old, Pyatov young and full of potential... And this experiecne could well help him delevep...

Roman, its spelt knights not nights. lol.

Anyway, I like the squad with one exception: Andriy Vorobei.

No idea why we need this fellow - if we need a left winger he could have easily included Aliev. But that spot should have gone to Shyschenko anyway.

Radchenko has played nearly every game for Dnipro, and he would be familiar with the Dnipro backline- so him not gettng a call is another biggie for me. Svidersky will be second choice anyway, maybe if Nesmachny gets injured and Svedya gets a shot he could replace Rat in Shakhtar's line after the WC? (wishful thinking)

Matiukhin has been injured, yes. And Startsev has been out for almost exactly the same time as Sasho, clearly has not recovered, but neither has Olexandr! Put in Shust at least against the Saudi's.

Overall, Im happy with the team.

Overall, Im happy with the team.

Aliev isn't even starting for the U21s as seen this last weekend in the Loban Tournament.

Vorobei selection is a bit hard to swallow considering his production effort with The Miners this season.

Shovkovsky looked very suspect these last 2 games against Shaxtar.
The ExtraTime goal which Aghahowa score was very close to the line and Shovkovsky opted to stauy on it rather than commit to punching the ball out - Poor decision.

Also in the 2nd half in the game in Kyiv highlights reveal blunders on his behalf.

I don't thjink he has fully recovered from his injury which he sustain earlier in the year. Not a good sign considereing he need to be at his very best.

All of them can and probably will go to Portugal...
If not (which is unlikely), you have Rybka of Dynamo and Shyryaev of Chudo to replace Shust and Pyatov; you have Feschuk to replace Milevsky and its a bit harder to replace Chyhrynsky, but after all you dont need to... They'll all be there

Well, Vorobei only score one league goal this season for The Miners.
That in Round 2 against Dnipro back in July 2005.

And his production for the National Team is just as meager.
