Kiev Bars & Dnipro V Hibernian Edinburgh

Hi

I am travelling to see Hibernian play Dnipro on Thursday 29 September.

We will be in Kiev on Wednesday 28 September. There will be champions league football on that night and we would like to watch this in a bar. Can someone recommend a good bar. I know there is an Irish bar O'Briens but we don't want to travel all this way and sit with ex-pats. Ideally it will be somewhere close to the railway station. If it had a beer garden or terrace that would be ideal and a jukebox would be perfect.
I think there will be a few hundred travelling through Kiev on The Tuesday and Wednesday. If there are no bars close to the train station please recommend your favourite ones. Is Arena any good (I think this is 5km fom train), or Erics Bierstube (2km maybe) or golden gate, planeta sport.

I think there will be between about 1200 fans from edinburgh going so I hope for a good welcome from the Dnipro fans!! There will be nobody looking for trouble, just to enjoy the beer, vodka and hopefully good weather.

Thanks for your help

Enjoy your time in Ukraine!

1200 that's a lot! I remember Club Brugge travelling with about 50 .

Thanks guys.

We have been given 1800 tickets but the Ukraine is not easy or cheap to get to so I think 1200 minimum maybe 1400/1500.

There is a lot of interest as it is the first time we have played in Europe since 2001. 1300 people had tickets to see us play AEK in Athens then the planes flew into the twin towers in New York and the game was cancelled. A week later, 0-2 in Athens, then 2-0 in Edinburgh. We lost after extra time.

2700 went to see us play Anderlecht in Brussels in 1992 - 2-2 in Edinburgh, 1-1 in Brussels, we lost on away goals!!

All the best.

There is a bar next to the train station near the entrance to the metro (Vokzal'na), but I don't remember if it has a TV, but since a metro journey is about seven pence it may be worth jumping on the metro and going across the river to Metro Station Darnicya. Through the market and past McDonalds are a few Bars/cafes/clubs, near the Bratislava hotel, and these are certainly not ex-pat haunts.
