Egypt-road to South Africa 2010

Well so far so good but what now? Egypt have maintained a good record except for a few surprises in the second round of qualifications. Thankfully because of the new seeding system Egypt wont have to face any of the classic superpowers on the way to the world cup so qualification seems possible.

The draw for the third round will take place in 22 October 2008 in Zurich. Five groups of four will be drawn, with the top side from each group qualifying for the World Cup. The top three from each side will qualify for the African Cup of Nations in Angola. ( but who cares about that

Pot A Pot B Pot C Pot D
Cameroon Tunisia Burkina Faso Benin
Egypt Morocco Algeria Togo
Nigeria Guinea Gabon Mozambique
Ghana Mali Kenya Sudan
Côte d'Ivoire Zambia Rawanda Malawi

I dont get how group leaders algeria for example did not even make it into Pot B nor do i have the patience to research it.

So a tough group could be in store for Egypt once again despite the seeding system. for example Egypt can possibly draw

Egypt
Morocco/Tunisia
Algeria
Togo

and that would be crap and it has happened before!

well we'll see what comes out of Zurich

Algeria are 2nd seeds (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/foot...ca/7669189.stm), so this group can't materialize (thankfully..)

I'm hoping for:

Egypt
Algeria (lesser of the evils)
Kenya
Mozambique/Malawi

toughest possible group for us IMHO:

Egypt
Morocco
Zambia
Sudan/Adebayor ( )

Algeria, Zambia and Rwanda.

If we don't make it this time we never will. Our ACN groups in the past 3 tournaments (04, 06 and 08) were tougher!

We kick off at home against Zambia on either the 28th or 29th of March.

3 home wins and a win in Kigali and we're through. The matches in Algeria and Zambia will be tough, though. But you don't need 18 or even 15 points to top the group, 12 would do. 13 certainly so.

..And not only because this isn't exactly 'a group of death', but also because this will be the last chance for the likes of Abo Treka, El Hadary, Wael Goma'a, Ahmed Hassan and Barakat (assuming Shehata puts the ugliness behind him..) - Abo Treka has done everything possible but taking part in the WC. Same for all of Ahly's players. They deserve to be there.

P.S. Glad that you posted, I was sounding like some freak talking to himself.

If they qualify they will prove without a shadow of a doubt that they are the best generation in Egyptian footbal history.

Wow, terrible loss to Algeria!

Why do you guys always own African competitions at club and country level, yet always choke in WC qualifiers???

Egyptian media and fans are now completely anti-Shehata. But the Egyptian FA seem to be supporting him, despite these difficulties.

What do you guys think, should he be replaced?

Don't lament the treachery of time;
long have dogs danced over the carcasses of lions.

Don't suppose that their dancing raises them above their masters;
for dogs remain dogs, and lions remain lions.

Insult me as you wish;
For my silence to the depraved is a response.

It's not that I have no response, but;
A lion does not reply to a dog.

I'm now certain that it's a curse, no other possible way to explain it.

Egypt, twice Champions of Africa on the trot, was drawn in a mickey mouse group but won't make the World Cup, nothing short of hilarious really.

We went into the African Cup of nations in 98, 2006 and 2008 in a pessimistic mood, the fans didn't expect anything yet we beat the likes of South Africa (then holders and quite a good team, unlike now), Ivory Coast (3 times in 3 tournaments), Cameroon (twice in 2008), Senegal etc.. to clinch 3 ACN trophies out of 6.

So you see, when we're optimistic and have high expectations we choke and when the expectations are low we do well.

Seems we only qualify when Italy hosts the World Cup - 34 and 90. So the solution to our problem is FIFA accepting a bid from Italy. Oh and may be some black magic could do the trick! :rollani:

First of all, guy not guys - seeing as I'm the only one frequenting this ghost town.

..Well they wouldn't sack him a few days prior to the Confederations Cup.

He'd definitely get an immediate sack IF we fail to beat Rwanda at home in July in a WCQ. That's our last chance.

In the event of not beating Rwanda then the sack would be justified, imo.

P.S. Thanks for posting, btw. Feel free to create a Lebanese hotties thread , should aid in bringing this forum back to life.

lol! ya3ni at the current XT rate of hotties threads, every forum's prerequisite is to have one. p

Though you have to admit Algeria aren't a walk-in-the-park either, they've been on decent form the last two years. But the other two Zambia and Rwanda(!) seriously 3ayb el shoum if you drop points!

On a slightly-related note, I met an Egyptian Ismaily fan last week for the first time in my life. True story: I asked him Ahlawy aw Zamalkawy, and he replied Ismaily. p

For us to qualify we must win all our remaining 3 games, and 2 of them are away. We historically struggle away from home, so don't see us getting 2 wins on the road for sure. Not to mention Algeria having a better goal difference.. Anyway, I honestly gave up after we failed to beat Zambia at home. We're cursed.

Rwanda 0-1 Egypt, Ahmed Hassan.

our tiny hopes for World Cup qualification stay alive.

Didn't watch as I was still asleep, though.
