Super Cup: Ahly vs ENPI

Is anyone else worried we're not getting enough rest for our pre-season? This may reflect badly on us next season, the players are already complaining of exhaustion.

In any case, Ahly (League champions) vs ENPI (Cup champions) in the Egyptian Super Cup coming up on Wednesday.

I predict a very difficult win, but lets hope we get it. Our year long unbeaten streak is at stake here.

My predictions: Ahly 2-1 ENPI

Scorers: Emad Meteb 2x, Amro Zaki

News from Ahly's training sessions:

Yeah I'm worried as well.

1. We didn't look good against Ajax in the weekend.

2. Treika is off form, and he's a vital asset to the team.

3. ENPPI had all the time in the world to prepare, both mentally and physically, for this match. Needless to say that they're a class side.

4. Our matches with them are always close and tough.

5. They want to add another title to their trophy cabinet. They'll be motivated like hell. Even more so than us, sadly.

6. AC stadium...

Yet what makes me a tad optimistic are the following reasons:

1. We have three strong competitve matches under our belt while ENPPI have none at all. Match practice is in our favor, and it's important.

2. On paper we're the better side, but you never know with football...

3. Shawqy will be back, so will Ahmed Hassan.

4. We are AHLY, nuff said.

btw, Essam Abdel Fatah will officiate the match.

Yeah but since when has Treka not been off-form. He's pissing me off lately, especially with all those one-on-ones that he can't score (vs. Rajaa, vs. Ajax, vs. Enyimba).

The AC stadium worries me too

Not gonna be easy this one. Never an easy mission against ENPPI and in this case we're playing in a game for a title, so expect it to be even more challenging.

Manuel Jose's mother passes away today, just before the match. RIP Hope the players can at least repay him and win this for him.

Ahly's starting lineup:

El Hadary
El Sayed
El Nahas
Gomaa
Shawky

Typical formation I guess.

ENPPI's lineup:

Mustafa Kamal (ex-Ahly)
Ayman Saeed
Amro Abdo
Amro Faheem
Mohamed Youness
Osama Hassan (ex-Ahly)
Mohamed Thabet (ex-Ahly)
Sameer Sabry
Mohamed Ghazaly

The match profit is divided as follows: 40% to the EFA, 30% to Ahly, 30% to ENPPI.

However, all three sides (based on a suggestion by the EFA) agreed to donate their share to the victims of the Sharm El Sheikh attacks.

Great gesture.

Halftime: 0-0

Ahly slightly dominating. ENPPI with two yellow cards.

Barakat is surprisingly on the bench. Ahly's formation seems to be:

---------------------------- Hadary ---------------------------
---------------------------- Nahas ----------------------------
-------------- Gom3a ------------------- Sayed ---------------
---------------- Hassan M. -------- Shawky -------------------
----- El Shater --------------------------------- Gilberto ------
--------------------------- Treka -----------------------------
--------------- Meteb ----------------- Flavio -----------------

YES!!!!

Thrilling game. It could've gone both ways but luckily Wael Gomaa THE LION was there to save the day for us. It was a very tough, intense match as we expected because ENPPI are by no means push-overs. Respect to Taha Basry and his players.

The pace of the match was a tad slow in the first half and the two teams lacked ideas in attack. Magdy Abdel Aty had a couple of opportunities to open the scoring but Hadary blocked his first effort and the second went inches wide of the left post.

We dominated proceedings but as I mentioned beforehand, Ahly lacked the necessary firepower upfront. The second half was different though, as we squandered a lot of chances (Meteb's penalty kick, Shawqy's shot that got deflected, Amro Fahim clearing off the line from Barakat, Mostafa Kamal blocking Wael Riad's shot & a couple of chances by Flavio are examples of the missed chances) We also wasted easy chances extra time. It was our problem last season, and let's hope we'll get over it soon before the going gets tough.

Ahmed el Sayed saved our right at the death. He may not be that great a player but he surely has heart.

ESSAM EL HADARY A.K.A THE MONSTER. He made a couple of crucial blocks to deny Abdel Aty. Hadary's back to his usual form, thanks to Manuel Jose and Nader

Hassan and Shawqy, well, I've seen them perform better but they looked a bit tired especially Shawqy. Yet they still outplayed Samir Sabry -international player- and ENPPI's midfield for large parts of the clash.

Abo Treika played better than the Ajax match but he's still not his usual self. He surely needs a breather. If Samaka is fit, play him. Cheetos is another option and so is Barakat.

Gilberto, decent as usual.

Flavio was weird. He had some sublime touches yet he also made a lot of missed passes. He needs time to adjust and learn to communicate with his teammates -apart from Gilberto that is -, but the talent is there. He's no Makinwa, Avellino or Benio.

Emad Meteb was the unluckiest player on the pitch NO DOUBT. He missed chance after chance after chance. But it happens to the best strikers so I'm not worried.

Jose was spot on tonight with his subs as both Barakat and then Cheetos looked lively when they came on in the second half. Not to mention that Cheetos assisted the winner. Barakat won us the penalty too so they made their presence felt.

Thank you boys! Each and every single player gave his all on the night.

Ok I may be overreacting a bit but it's a title afterall and we won it against a class side which makes it taste even sweeter.

FORZA AHLY !!!

First title in the bag, hopefully more to come!
