It could've gone both ways but luckily Wael Gomaa THE LION
was there to save the day for us. It was a very tough, intense match as we expected because ENPPI are by no means push-overs. Respect to Taha Basry and his players.
The pace of the match was a tad slow in the first half and the two teams lacked ideas in attack. Magdy Abdel Aty had a couple of opportunities to open the scoring but Hadary blocked his first effort and the second went inches wide of the left post.
We dominated proceedings but as I mentioned beforehand, Ahly lacked the necessary firepower upfront. The second half was different though, as we squandered a lot of chances (Meteb's penalty kick, Shawqy's shot that got deflected, Amro Fahim clearing off the line from Barakat, Mostafa Kamal blocking Wael Riad's shot & a couple of chances by Flavio are examples of the missed chances) We also wasted easy chances extra time. It was our problem last season, and let's hope we'll get over it soon before the going gets tough.
Ahmed el Sayed saved our
right at the death. He may not be that great a player but he surely has heart.
ESSAM EL HADARY A.K.A THE MONSTER
He made a couple of crucial blocks to deny Abdel Aty. Hadary's back to his usual form, thanks to Manuel Jose and Nader
Hassan and Shawqy, well, I've seen them perform better but they looked a bit tired especially Shawqy. Yet they still outplayed Samir Sabry -international player- and ENPPI's midfield for large parts of the clash.
Abo Treika played better than the Ajax match but he's still not his usual self. He surely needs a breather. If Samaka is fit, play him. Cheetos is another option and so is Barakat.
Gilberto, decent as usual.
Flavio was weird. He had some sublime touches
yet he also made a lot of missed passes. He needs time to adjust and learn to communicate with his teammates -apart from Gilberto that is
-, but the talent is there. He's no Makinwa, Avellino or Benio.
Emad Meteb was the unluckiest player on the pitch NO DOUBT. He missed chance after chance after chance. But it happens to the best strikers so I'm not worried.
Jose was spot on tonight with his subs as both Barakat and then Cheetos looked lively when they came on in the second half. Not to mention that Cheetos assisted the winner. Barakat won us the penalty too so they made their presence felt.
Thank you boys!
Each and every single player gave his all on the night.
Ok I may be overreacting a bit but it's a title afterall and we won it against a class side which makes it taste even sweeter.
FORZA AHLY !!!
First title in the bag, hopefully more to come!
