YWC - Egypt Vs. Germany

We'll kick-off our U-20 WC campaign against the Germans tomorrow evening in the Dutch city of Enschede.

Best of luck to the young Pharaohs and may they repeat the successes of their predecessors (back in 2001 and 2003)

Look out for Ahmed Samir Farag and Shikabala

0-0 HT.

We're playing relatively well (a tad better than the Germans) but failing to finish off the chances we create upfront. Abdallah el-Said had a great chance to open the scoring for Egypt after Abdallah el-Shahat's sublime defence-splitting pass yet his shot was too timid to trouble the German goalie. We finished the half strongly with a couple of shots, one was saved well by their goalie.

Abdel Ilah Galal is by a mile our best player so far. Shikabala had some decent touches and dribbles while Ahmed Samir Farag has been a huge disappointment. He basically did nothing. Hopefully he'll improve in the second half.

We can win this one, Germany are nothing special (they lack talent, it's so apparent.)

We lost... :depress:

Completely different second half, we were awful and failed to create one single chance. Germany capitalized on a couple of errors by Ghanem Sultan and Hamada Shaban (our goalie) ---> 1-0. We also earned two utterly stupid red cards after a dive and a horrendous challenge.

Farag was even worse in the second half. Worst player on the field hands down.

Shikabala hogs the ball way too much, he should learn to pass every now and then. Very similar to Denilson, a showboat. Too bad as he possesses immense talent.

Positives from the game are Ahmed Magdy and Abdel Ilah Galal, they defended well throughout.

We're surely out now as we failed to beat, with all due respect, a VERY average and limited side.

Germany have one good player in their right winger, Michael Delura, and the rest need a lot of work as to become better players.

Saw the match, too.
Best player was our LB Marcell Janssen, not Delura. Janssen played very well, he assisted on the 1st goal with he shot which was deflected, he can make it big imho. Good decision by our coach to bring on defensive mid Hampel in the 2nd half, he helped us to gain control in the midfield which we completely lacked in th first half. Unfortunately Hampel broke his shin and fibula in this crazy tackle which earned one of the egyptian players a red card.
But it's right, we didn't play well and the overall level was quite low.

Well, the one that troubled us the most was surely Delura. I think he can become a decent right winger in the future.

And yes, Germany indeed improved in the second half.

Sorry for that. That was one moronic challenge and our defender got what he deserved.

Yeah both sides don't possess that much potential. We've had vastly superior youth sides in the previous two World Cups (in 2001 we finished third and in 2003 we made it to the second round and got knocked out by Argentina via a Fernando Cavenaghi golden goal.)

Good luck anyway.

I have to say our 2003 team was actually one of our best, then comes the 2001 bronze team. This one however has some potential but don't expect them to go anywhere in this tournament.

I think we can blame poor coaching for failure of this team (I wish they can get back on track but i doubt it)

The team has plenty of decent players...just like the 2 previous teams...

Defence...

Ahmed magdy
Abdella Galal
Kareem Zekry (injured)

Very strong defence as these three players can be described as solid defenders and proved themselves quiet well..

Wingers...

Abdel Aziz Tawfeek....wait for this guy (formerly Mansoura player and recently bought by Enppi)....defenitly one of the best players in the team...and i expect him to be in NT soon..

Ahmed Ghanem...decent...just decent...

Midfield....

Abdalla Shahat
Abdalla Sa3eed

Both are very good players...who aren't well used by the coach..and they can be the next Hosny and Fathy....

Hossam Ashour... excellent defensive midfielder who would have been in Ahly's 1st lineup if not disturbed by youth NT....

Amr el Halawany...decent...

Shikabala.. the best player in the team...but he has to stop thinking so...and do more team work...but he's a huge prospective and with little luck...would be something in Europe....

Strikers....weakest line btw

Ahmed Samir Farag....he is supposed to be better than he seems...or how come souchaux bought him...anyway...this explains why Ahly let him go...while they hold others...

Hossam Osama...a better striker...but still not a MIDO or Yamany2001....

Such players...would defenitly do better with a good coach...i wonder why not a big name in charge of such a team...why not Farouk Ga3far or Mohamed Salah...or anyone but not this Mohamed Radwan...

Thank you God because i was born Egyptian..We have the Pyramids ..We have the river Nile and we have the most wonderful soccer team in the world Zamalek

True, Mohamed Radwan is definately a bad choice. The team does indeed have good players but really bad management, which i'm afraid will cost us a good show in this tournament.

Long time no see, Micheal. Hope you can post here more often.

Quality post, btw.

Regarding Mohamed Radwan, he was the assistant coach and then had to carry the burden because the coach, Dr. Mohamed Ali, died (RIP).

It's clear that the job is bigger than him, we've learnt that the hard way.

That's precisely why we need you (and Hatem) to post here.

It's no fun discussing with Ahly fans only, we need some conflicts and fights as to spice things up a little.

Not exactly supporting ya3ny, just a soft spot no more. Had you seen their UEFA Cup semi-final second leg against Sporting Lisbon you would've understood.

They lost their place in the final in the dying moments of the second period of extra-time, a very dramatic finish.

They are a decent side with many good players such as Tarek Sektioui, Adel Ramzy, Perez, Landzaat, Nelisse, Jaliens and Van Galen.
