ACL Round 16 - USMA Vs AHLY

A very big game this Friday between Algeria's and Egypt's best at the moment. Both teams are topping their local tables and have an equal chance of qualifying to the group stage. Its sad to have both teams meet now since they are both strong contenders for the title, but the draw proved rough.

Now USMA is a very strong team, particalurly when playing at home. Very hard to defeat. If Ahly plays the same way we did in our last 2 games Vs Beni Yas and Hodoud, we wont get a good result IMO. However those games were played with a more of second squad, so Im hoping for some good performence and a win at Algiers would be more than amazing.

One last thing, Algerian fans in my opinion are some of the best fans in the whole world, in terms of cheering for their teams. So it wont be easy playing infront of 80,000 of them at 5 Juillet stadium, but Im confident our boys could handle the pressure.

We won't be playing at the 5th of July stadium, but at USMA's stadium and it's capacity is 15,000 only.

That's because they're too chicken to play us on natural turf. :rollani:

A scoring draw would be excellent.

Well thats new info for me, and if its true than many thanks to them, alot of pressure off now. So its all about the "tertan" now, and we've already been practicing on it for a while so it shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks USMA, 3amalto khier wallahy.

Actually USMA plays at its Bologhine for money purposes. Its very expensive to play at 5 Juillet because they have to train on it many times (renting costs). So, whenever given the opportunity they play in their local field (Stade Omar Hamadi AKA Bologhine). Its not about being 'chicken' or anything. USMA could actually do better in a stadium like 5 Juillet because its easier to control the ball compared to playing on turf. Also, they would have the crowd advantage, 80,000 compared to 10,000-15,000 max.

As for the 2 teams, USMA has been very strong these past 5 years and have done extremely well in the CL these last 2 years. This year's team is different with the departure of striker Mamadou Diallo to FC Nantes and the benching of the other 2 strikers Rabie Benchergui and Issad Bourahli for disciplinary reasons. However, we have some strong African players up front namely Mintou Doucoure from Mali and Michael Eneramo from Nigeria. The midfield is as strong as ever with Karim Ghazi coming back from Esperence "Taraji" of Tunis and with Hocine Achiou (goal-scorer against Egypt), Bilel Dziri (played in France, and used to play with Nejm Sahely "Etoile Du Sahel" of Tunisia) and Ammar Ammour (who was linked with a move to Al Ahly in the summer). I think it will be a good game. However, im in dissappointed that it wont be played in a world-class stadium because it really deserves to be.

Anyway good luck Ahly.

LOL. You are more up to date than i am on this matchup. I guess you are really looking forward to it. Ammour is probably injured (as he's been very often). Too bad, cause he can be very dangerous when healthy.
Anyway good luck USMA.

USMA players ruled out of the game:

Ammour (injured)
Arribi (injured)
Bourahli (problems with coach)
Metref (playing with U21 national team at Islamic Games)
Hamdoud (injured)

4 of the 5 are starters and Metref has been the first guy off the bench and will probably start next year. Too bad for us.

So is USMA's stadium artificial as in field hockey artificial? Or artificial as in still it looks and feels like grass?

footballnut: I actually live in Canada and i took my name from the Wu Tang rapper Ghostface Killah, who is also known as Tony Starks.

Sabry: Its not artifical in the sense that it feels like real grass. Its artificial like field hockey artificial. Its a terrible terrain to play on, and teams in Algeria have been complaining about it for years but there is no money for change. However, the new 5th generation artificial turfs are being installed in the newer stadiums, so its a matter of time before Bologhine will have it.

Where in Canada are you bro?

About the game, the players left out by Ahly were:

Khaled Bibo (injury)
Ahmed AbuMosalem (injury)
Sayed AbdelHafiz (injury)
Castillo (un-registered)
Ahmed ElSayed (technical reasons)

Since none of those are actual starters, we seem to have a full squad heading to Algeria. My expected line-up is:

-----------------------------El-Hadary----------------------------
--------Gomaa----------------Nahas-----------------Shady-------
--El-Shater----------------------------------------------Gilberto--
---------------------Mustafa-----------Shawky-------------------
---------------Barakat----------------------AbuTrieka------------
------------------------------Meteb------------------------------

Considering we're playing a tough team away, we're gonna need El-Shater as right back instead of Barakat. Also Gilberto should surely be on the left since AbuMosadas is out. Two defensive midfielders are necessary with Barakat and Trieka supporting Meteb for attacking duties. Off the bench, useful players would be Ossama Hosny, Wael Reyad, Bilal, Ahmed Hassan, or AbdelWehab.

Im in Ottawa, Ontario. Canada's capital. As for the game, it will be played 16.00 local time (GMT or +1 GMT, im not sure with the new daylight savings time changes). The game can be watched live on Canal Algerie. Im not sure if ESC-1 will air it or if ART America will air it (i doubt it).

Yeah but that means I miss the game

First injury hits Ahly in Algeria, with Wael Reyad out for three weeks...

Any idea how he got the injury? I also see that you put him as a bench player in your lineup. How much will his injury affect the team in your opinion ?

Close to none, TonyStarks. Wael Reyad has featured very rarely for Ahly this season. He's a good substitute to keep, but I don't think his injury is a big deal considering that Manuel Jose has better options up front.

Overall, Ahly has a very deep squad and any injuries should not be a major problem (except to Meteb and Trieka).
