Egypt slam 'disloyal' players

Egypt slam 'disloyal' players

By Amr Shaheen
BBC Sport in Cairo

The Egyptian Football Association has released an official statement condemning players who have snubbed the national team in recent months.

The statement noted that some Egypt players had refused to play for the national team, and declared they would not be given the chance to play international football again.

"We would like to confirm that those players do not deserve the honour of defending the colours of their country and are of no significance to our national team," it said.

"We will make sure that those disloyal players never play for Egypt again."

The statement did not specify any names, but it is likely the target of much of its content was directed at AS Roma striker Ahmed "Mido" Hossam.

Mido has not played for the Pharaohs since the African Cup of Nations in January, and thousands of fans last week condemned him after he missed a crucial World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.

After the game, Pharaohs boss Marco Tardelli declared that the striker was "not on my books."

However, Mido is not the only name on the blacklist.

Al Ahly goalkeeper Essam El Hadary has declared he will no longer feature after losing his position to veteran Nader El Sayed, while Zamalek midfielder Tamer Abdel-Hamid left the training camp 72 hours before the Cameroon match.

"We are trying to give a moral lesson to our players," Egyptian FA board member Viken Djizmedjian told BBC Sport.

"They should understand that playing for their country is an honour,"

Now this is when we say "face the facts"

1) Do you realize how much a legend like Hossam Hassan has given to Egypt? Do you realize how he reached the age of 37 and that he has the full right to retire from international football? You really think its fair to end the career of such a legend in such a disgraceful manner?

2) Do you realize that Mido was indeed injured? And that Marseille themselves were the ones who sent EFA a fax saying that the player still suffered from his groin injury? And that he played part of the second half in Roma's friendly by the request of his manager who wanted Mido to return to fitness? And that as a result of this Mido's injury will now take a longer period of time before curing cause he played while being injured?

We ban a player for "life time" when he commits something serious. These players commited nothing serious, and if a punishment was a must then a 4-5 month ban would have served. But banning one of our all-time best talents for life-time at the age of 21 is to me and to anyone else Pure Noncence.

Not including a true traitor such as Zidan in the list is PURE NONSENCE. It means that he is above loyal players who have given so much to their countries, yes, Im talking about Hossam Hassan and Mido.
