We actually played well but a Insigne earned his spot at Euro 16. Giaccherini was once again very good for Italy too.

Pelle has limitations but at least his hold up play is good. Darmian excellent in a back 3 as he is as a wing back.

Oh and Thiago Motta was brilliant. He and Verratti can own the midfield. Hope Verratti comes back fit for Euro

The right side, with Darmian and Candreva, looked solid, even dangerous, while the left looked limited when Eder was there. Insigne looked terrific when he came on. Motta did look excellent, even if he's unpredictable.

It works if you work it.

What does that have to do with it? If any...it is an example for the rest of this country to support our national team....

Say what you will about the talent but Conte is a boss. 343 is superb.
This is a better team than 2012,
perhaps the best squad since 2006?

We need a proper CF but Insigne ElSha Florenzi Verratti Darmian Marchisio Barzagli Chielini Candreva Bernadeshci are all very useful talents. Of course Bonnucci and Buffon too. Motta is solid as well.

unfortunately some people are retarded. they will denigrate giacherrini because of club form or being a club bench players when he consistently plays well for NT and even is the only one that plays in certain key positions when tactically needed. it's not necessarily a no-brainer to bring him but he is worth consideration always given his ability to step-up for the NT and be a useful player

I am glad conte found an interesting tactical module with the players at hand. having darmian in the back field is an interesting option that speeds up the group of three defenders. the module also allows some versatile players like the latter and florenzi to operate on greater surfaces of the field.

Italy is also producing, pretty much like everywhere else in the world, more wing forwards than midfield wingers or trequartiste, so it is important to take this into account when we try to utilize our best resources on the pitch

with that said, it is maybe good that we try a 3-4-3 as conte did because the team lacks the offensive talent it would need to compete with some teams at ball retention in a 4-3-3. at least this way the team is able to unleash good counters and to revert to defensive formations without the ball. but it goes almost without saying that conte will need to have a few good set-ups at his disposal to tackle the likes of Germany and france, etc (I don't even know who the good teams in Europe are anymore other than Germania)

England Belgium France Spain Germany are all stiff squads at the moment.
Gabbiadini and Berardi not going is tragic but understandable. They fit the system perfectly and can actually finish. Gabb would be my CF.

Italy played well - just missing a Pipo/Vieri type in front!

I worry about Marchisio and Verratti as a midfield duo, even with wingbacks supporting, Verratti should be allowed to roam and playmake with little defensive duties and if that is the case I feel they might be a little swamped against three man central midfields that most teams field these days.
Maybe Candreva can play as a Central Attacking midfielder who will tuck in to central midfield, with Insigne and Pelle up front

I see the point of logic with playing a No 9/Target man type forward, but if the teams best attackers are inside forwards or second strikers perhaps something should be tried with those type of players - in other words try and play both SES and Insigne, maybe flanking Eder. Problem with that is no one at the end of crosses. With that in mind:

Buffon - Darmian, Chiellini, Bonucci, Antonelli - Marchisio, Verratti, Motta (or Soriano/Montolivo??) - Candreva - El Sharawy, Insigne

For the next Friendly:

Perin - Di Silvestri, Ranocchia, Acerbi, Antonelli- Jorginho, Soriano, Bernardeschi, -Bonaventura, Zaza, El Sharawy,

That defence will get ripped to bits :-)

That is Only what I think. Just to try out all the faces in the squad

Though in hindsight, replace Zaza with Bonaventura, I would love to see how/if Bonav, SES and Insigne can function together

The reason we have these games is to try new things and to learn. Here is what we learned:

- Someone needs to tell Buffon he is not capable of the big save anymore...time to step aside.
- Zaza is not NT quality, he should not be part of the squad going to the Euros.
- Montolivo is finished.
- SES should be given more opportunity
- Without Candreva there is no creativity in midfield, he is a must.

Let's pray Bonucci is OK...his injury looked serious and we cannot afford to lose him for the EUROS.

This is quite sad, losing 4-0 to Germany, Italy is so use to owning this nation in the sport 1 on 1. Conte just can't wait to leave the national team. Every major nation in Europe is well ahead of Italy. Italy can only reach the level Germany through Italian clubs investing heavily into the youth system, Some players like Arcerbi should never be considered.

I agree Buffon needs to step down.

Conte will now panic and take Pirlo.

Frank....add Giaccherini, Acerbi and Thiago Motta to that list.

Bernardeschi is still too raw as well.
