U17 european chmpionships

Spain 2-0 Italy

Italy were poor and after their game plan failed they were unable to get back in the match.

Italy seem to be able to hold the Spanish and fustrate them comfortable until a pass back by Cristico to Virgili who kicked it into the Spanish forward charging him down and the ball rebounded in. This seemed to upset the Italians as their game plan broke and another lucky goal came shortly after when a miss hit shot went to a Spanish player and he laid it across for an empty net.

Second Half Italy showed a bit more attacking, but wasnt really creating, once the game plan was broken, Spain controlled the game and Italy found hard to pressure Spain.

Ratings:
Virgili 6.5
Motta 5.5
Marzoratti 5.5
Andreoli 5.5
Cristico 5
Bottone 5.5
Morosini 5.5
Bovo 5
Morsia 5 - Formochetti 40' 5.5
Paulucci 5.5 - Lupoli 50' 6
Pozzi 6.5 - Rossi 50' 5.5

80 minute matches by the way

England won 2-1 so Italy must beat England.

I heard Virgili made an error to give Spain a goal and after that Italy just didn't have much hope of getting back into the match. It is disappointing for them to lose 2-0 but they have just lost to the tournament favourites so it is not much of a disgrace. But if they lose to England they're already out.

It was Vagili's mistake, but a kicking mistake, his actual goalkeeping ability is excellent. As I said once their game plan failed they didnt have enough attack in them to go on and get a goal, disappointing especially at that age to still be playing ultra-defensive tactics but they are teaching them early.

Italy 0-0 England

Not the result Italy may have wanted, but a good team performance and could have snatched a win. A very good defence for Italy and the attacking play at times was positive, but a bit too inconsistent

They need to beat israel by a couple of goals and hope England lose to Spain in the last match to get through

Virgili 6,5
Motta 6
Marzoratti 6,5
Andreoli 6,5
Critico 6,5
Bottone 5
Stucchi 6 - Rossi 7 - 40'
Morosini 6
Bovo 5 - Formichetti 5,5 - 60'
Lupoli 6,5
Pozzi 5,5 - Paolucci 6 - 60'

I have to say they were simply shocking. In all honesty, if i was playing i could of destroyed that England defence or even Spains, really poor attacking wise i think, very clear no Roma players were on the side

Well I just dont think our players helped out the attack enough.

Pozzi and Rossi look decent players as did Lupoli but without help from the midfield they cant do much. The defence was good though.

U-17 Championships

I don't know if you guys are following this or not.

But you're in some serious trouble of qualifaction after tieing England 0-0 and then getting hammered by the Spanish 2-0

Here is your squad

Portieri: Bindi (Arezzo), Virgili (Parma);
Difensori: Andreoli (Padova), Bagarollo (Padova), Marzoratti (Milan), Vitale (Pescara), Motta (Atalanta), Criscito (Genoa);
Centrocampisti: Bottone (Torino), Buffa (Parma), Bovo (Venezia), Formichetti (Lazio), Lazzari (Lodigiani), Morosini (Atalanta), Stucchi (Atalanta);
Attaccanti: Paolucci (Juventus), Pozzi (Cesena), Lupoli (Parma), Rossi (Parma), Morsia (Parma).

And they're out now despite winning 4-0 against Israel. Pity they couldn't produce that form earlier in the tournament.

England came back from 2-0 down against spain for 2-2 and I think that sent them through right?

Not even a win against Israel 4-0 (two goals each for Pozzi and Luppoli) was enough for the Under 17 team to advance to the semifinals: in fact, in the other match Spain and England tied 2-2 and advance to the semifinals together with Portugal and Sweden that won the other group standings.
The Italians return home disappointed even because against Israel they played their best match of the European Championships held in Portugal. In addition, at the end of the first half, Spain was winning against England 2-0 as was Italy against Israel, but then the bad news came in the second half. A loss against Spain, a draw against England and a win against Israel: these are the results obtained by the team coached by Antonio Rocca in the final phase of the European Championships. The Italians finished third in the standings with four points behind Spain (7) and England (5).

When are the U-20 games on Deanfio, will they be televised?
Pepe and Bovo are ours and are both quality players, should be interesting. Calaio used to be good too.

Sorry for asking a silly question, but how big is this tournament and who are the other teams in it? I hope the Under 20 team are able to qualify for the next World Championship. The World Under 20's got postponed in March to December I think but hopefully in the 2005 event Italy will be there.

They have a chance of winning the december event because the team looks very good.

It was only a four nation tournament.
Italy
Germany
England
Switzerland

The scores of the tournament so far are:
Switzerland 0-3 Italy - Calaio x2, Mesto
England 3-5 Italy - Calaio x2, Donadel, Piccolo, Quagliarella
Italy 2-1 Germany - Calaio, Berardi
Germany 3-4 Italy - Pepe, Quadri x2, Ruopolo
Italy 8-0 Switzerland - Altobelli, Breviario, Calaio x2, Pepe x2, Quadri, Vianello

Very good performances
