not really

The 96-98 squad and 2012-2014 were somewhat better however the advantage this current squad has is strength in depth of the midfield and defensive positions. So the quality of NT Selection pool has definitely expanded

Remember we still have Dilaver who will be cleared to play for us soon and a few other young guys and players returning to form coming up who can break in the squad at any moment.

Quite different from the old days when the NT had to call up guys like Velimir Vidic or Adnan Mravac if someone got injured.

The problem with the 1996-1998 team was that even in the first eleven, there were stark quality gaps, often owing to poor selection. The goalkeeper and defensive midfield positions were real needless headaches: Mirsad Dedic was somehow installed as the #1 even as Tomislav Piplica and Miralem Ibrahimovic were available, while successive BiH coaches simply omitted physically 'hard' midfielders.

By 2012-2014, the BiH starting eleven had been consolidated. Nevertheless, even the 2014 FIFA World Cup roster included two obviously weaker players – Anel Hadzic and Avdija Vrsajevic – while the likes of Kolasinac, Vranjes, Besic, Sunjic, Susic, Visca and Hajrovic were talented but incredibly raw.

Both these issues now seem to be of historical interest only.

Whom is Sead Kolašinc fooling? Again injured.
Get this:

?udnovati slu?aj Seada Kola?inca: Naj?e??e povrije?en kad treba igrati za reprezentaciju ? Sport Centar

Sead Kolašinac has played full 90 minutes for Arsenal vs Chelsea in the UEFA Europa League final on 29 May 2019. He has now said he sustained injury and will miss next two international matches on 8th and 11th June 2019. This is now becoming a pattern.

KOLA OUT!

If you ask me he can stay out (together with Ogi Vranjes) PERMANENTLY!

Kolasinac was suffering from an injury in the weeks leading up to the UEFA Europa League Final, and trained with his knee strapped prior to the game in Baku. His absence is not a surprise, though it is a disappointment.

The in-form Bojan Nastic has been called up as Kolasinac's replacement.

Finland's squad for their games against BiH (08/06) and Liechtenstein (11/06) has been announced:

Lukas Hradecky (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), Jesse Joronen (FC Křbenhavn), Anssi Jaakkola (Reading FC), Paulus Arajuuri (Brřndby IF), Albin Granlund (Örebro SK), Juha Pirinen (Tromsř IL), Jukka Raitala (Montreal Impact), Leo Väisänen (FC Den Bosch), Sauli Väisänen (FC Crotone), Joona Toivio (BK Häcken), Jere Uronen (KRC Genk), Joni Kauko (Esbjerg fB), Rasmus Schüller (Minnesota United), Glen Kamara (Rangers FC), Tim Sparv (FC Midtjylland), Lassi Lappalainen (HJK), Robin Lod (Sporting Gijon), Petteri Forsell (MKS Miedz Legnica), Pyry Soiri (FC Admira Wacker), Robert Taylor (Tromsř IL), Simon Skrabb (IFK Norrköping), Teemu Pukki (Norwich City FC), Rasmus Karjalainen (KuPS) and Benjamin Källman (Vendsyssel FF)

With all due respect to the Finns, this is a limited roster which Bosnia should be aiming to defeat.

So instead he played a full 90 minutes injured? What a joke by Arsenal medical staff.

Now he is going to miss 2 important games for Bosnia. But who cares, is Bosnia even a real country ? They probably can't even find it on a map.

Kolasinac is a key player for Emery. There was no way he was going to be omitted from the UEFA Europa League Final line-up even if he was 50% fit; plus, they have nothing to lose by playing him as it's the last game of their season.

HT: Finland 0-0 BiH.

A poor half of football all round.

The plus points: Bosnia have looked almost solid at the back, and unlike in previous games they haven't even come close to looking overrun in midfield.

The negatives: chances have been at a premium, and the balance of the side is wrong. Prosinecki has put out a team which contains seven essentially defensive players and no central creative midfielder; replacing Pjanic with Cimirot is not a like-for-like swap.

The negatives outweigh the positives because the gap in ability between these two sides is enormous. Finland are so workmanlike that BiH should have no problem at all taking the game to them and winning, but it hasn't worked out that way so far.

There is, however, at least one glimmer of hope: in the last five minutes of the half, a switch flicked and Bosnia suddenly came alive, winning a flurry of corners. Finland really needed half-time.

56': Finland 1-0 BiH. Pukki drives a bus through the centre of the BiH defence and cooly slots past Sehic.

Not surprising, they have played the entire game as if they were begging to conceed. Remind me again how Sunjic is a "top" defender apparently.

YBC : The rest of the teams in Scotland are on the level of the Moldovan league, but Celtic are actually decent as evidence by their Champions League performances.

68': Finland 2-0 BiH. Pukki scores on the counterattack. Nightmare territory now. Prosinecki could be under unbelievable pressure after this game.

Absolutely pathetic display, if they don't qualify a complete overhaul will be needed, an ACTUAL overhaul for once.

It's not his fault the entire team is far, far too defensive. Prosinecki picked a fine squad but as soon as I saw the line-up for this game, I honestly thought it would end in a 2-0 loss because there is no obvious source of attacking threat as the formation (no central creative midfielder) doesn't allow for it.

You mean it's NEVER his fault, players like him have been constantly getting away with being terrible since at least 2014.

FT: Finland 2-0 BiH.

Robert Prosinecki will now be under intense pressure as Bosnian coach. Losing is one thing; losing 2-0 to Finland is another thing; making Finland look like Brazil is an entirely different category of garbage. After they went behind, BiH never came close to exerting serious pressure on the Finnish goal. That is simply disgraceful, and a real indictment of both the formation and the selection.

Where was Vrancic? Where was Prevljak? Why no Loncar? Why pick creative attacking players if you are not going to use them?

Perhaps the biggest concern of all is that the players know that something is deeply wrong with Prosinecki's formation, but Prosinecki himself seems genuinely surprised that things are not going as planned – and clueless as to how to rectify it. He didn't even use the third substitution available to him, which is simply incredible.

There are two possible silver linings to this insanity:

A. Both coach and players know that there is now no more margin for error. None whatsoever. They have to play well and get results if they are still going to go for automatic qualification. That means beating Finland at home and Greece and Armenia away; trying to get something from the Italy games; and tonking Liechtenstein.

B. Prosinecki now has to get serious. He cannot indulge his curiously stubborn selection whims anymore. Hajrovic has to be called up, and probably Prcic too. Options such as Loncar, Prevljak, Gojak, Memisevic and Kapic must be tried out. Everything must be done to get Dilaver fast-tracked into the squad, because the absence of a defensively-competent right-back is killing BiH right now. And the present iteration of 4-3-3 must go – anything without at least one creative midfielder is forcing Dzeko to drop back into midfield, which is the last thing that should be happening.
