BiH Clubs in European Competitions 11/12

It's a little too early, but I figured we'd get the discussion going (I'm new to XT, but I am like the biggest fan of Bosnian club football as you will see over time. )

Most likely to happen

UEFA Champions League:
FK Borac Banja Luka

UEFA Europa League:
FK Zeljeznicar, FK Sarajevo, NK Siroki Brijeg/NK Celik Zenica

Next weekend's 28th Round and the Kup BiH Final will decide any questions regarding Europe, I'm sure.

I expect Borac and Zeljo to get past the first round of their individual competitions, but not much further. I really can't see Borac getting past the third qualifying round, since we could be facing a team like Rubin, or Rangers. Same goes for the rest of our teams in the Europa league.

Would be nice to have Borac reach the playoff round like Sarajevo did a couple seasons back.

You expect Borac to go through? For me, it's just a 'backs against the wall' experience in the Champions League. They won't have Jagodic as manager either so it will be really difficult.

I looked on Wiki and it said "Champions of Bosnia" are under "Unknown Seeding". Anyone know if Borac might actually be seeded for the 2nd qual. round? That would change everything in my opinion.

The thing is, Borac have been one of the most organized teams in BiH for the past few years. Since 08/09 they have won the cup once, were 5th, 3rd, and now most likely champions of the Premier League. Also, while a lot of us might not be fans of them, their Tifo scene is one of the best in BiH.

I think they have what it takes to do a pretty good job, at least for BiH standards.

What does any of that matter for the Champions League? Look at Zeljo's title-winning team. It was the best defence in the league and one of the best club squads since independence, yet Hapoel destroyed them 5-0 after 38 minutes before taking their foot off the pedal and letting them slide "Sanmarinese punishment".

If Borac get seeded, it will be great news and the hardest teams they could face are Pyunik, Skonto, or Tobol, all which are more than manageable. If they get unseeded, they better pray for Zestafoni, Ekranas, HJK or it's all over just like it was for Zeljo.

I just think that Borac are one of the more stable sides in the BiH PL, and they have a better defensive record than Zeljo did the previous season. I think that they will get past the second qualifying round, and with a lot of luck they could get to the playoff round. I do expect them to at least get through the second round.

I can't really make predictions before the draw, but here's my minimum hopes:

Borac - 3rd qual. round of CL, go out; go to EL playoffs, lose
Zeljo - Go to EL playoffs, lose
FKS - 3rd qual. round of EL, lose
Siroki - 2nd qual. round of EL, lose

Most of you are overrating Seljo - they're not any better than FKS. Borac is quality, but I think Široki has the most lethal squad (if not in terms of squad quality, then team chemistry).

I guess we'll see this summer and how these teams strengthen/weaken.

No Zrinjski in Europe. I know you are all shocked and dissappointed, but never fear Zrinjski is a powerhouse and will be back next season!!

If Borac are not seeded for the 2nd round they will get eliminated straight away, just like Zeljo and Zrinjski before them.

Now there's a measurememt of quality - to be somewhat better than the kitari

Whoever joins BBL and Zeljo in Europe will get eliminated in the first 2 rounds, same as every other year.

Who knows maybe Borac tuffs it out a bit longer, solid backline and last year very tough loss in the 2nd round. All they can hope is to get an away draw and scrape it at home.

Zeljo hard to say, at least they can score a few more goals.

I still don't see why we have to play in the first qualifying round every year. Our clubs breeze through that all the time. I really hope at least one of our clubs make a decent run in Europe this time.

If anything, playing from the absolute start and inching our way up is more beneficial for our clubs. More games brings the clubs in more money, players are exposed for longer periods of time in the international scene, our respective Wikipedia's look more impressive , etc.
