Siroki didn't do too bad in this draw, the oponent should not pose any troubles to them but the long trip makes it quite tricky. The fun begins once Siroki goes through (confidence) because they will face CSKA Moskva but keeping in mind that Siroki do have a good squad and are in the process of acquiring new players i think they might do us proud.

Easy match in the first round, but Siroki's chances against CSKA are 50:1.

Not really, if Vardar could beat CSKA Moscow in the CL qualifiers, I believe Siroki can!

Real Madrid! Pffffff... too easy. So if Siroki get past the tough hurdle of CSKA they get a pissweak team like Real. That's no motivation!!!

Good luck to Siroki! I think they can beat CSKA Moscow, if Vardar did last season there is no reason why Siroki can't.

Good luck to Siroki! Its important not to look too far ahead, right now they have to concentrate on the two legs against this team from Azerbaijan.

Siroki won 2-1...late goal by the Azerbaijan team (90th) minute. Makes the situation much more difficult for the return leg with the other team having an away goal.

As I said in the post above, you have to be careful, you cant look past these teams.

Hopefully Siroki will not play for the 0-0 draw, it almost scrwed Slaven Belupo recently in the Intertoto Cup and the Croatian U21 team. It will be difficult but hopefully Siroki can do it and get to the next round!
I was mistaken about Neftchi, the majority of their club play for the Azerbaijan national team so they can't be that bad.

I was expecting some sort of smiley after that sentence so I was ready to pull out one of these:

Široki Brijeg have slight edge
Tuesday, 13 July 2004

Bosnia-Herzegovina champions NK Široki Brijeg have a slender lead to take to Azerbaijan after a 2-1 victory against PFC Neftchi in the first leg of their first qualifying round match.

Azerbaijani international Zaur Tagizade

Plenty at stake
William Tabi and Nikola Juricic scored for the home side but a Zaur Tagizade strike in added time has given their Azeri visitors a lifeline ahead of the return a week on Wednesday. With Russian title-holders PFC CSKA Moskva awaiting the winners, there was plenty at stake in tonight's contest at the Pecara stadium.

Tense start
It was no surprise therefore that neither side created a goalscoring opportunity in the opening 20 minutes. It was the visitors who came up with the first real chance on goal in the 28th minute, when Tagizade escaped the attention of the home defence to shoot from 20 metres. However, NK Široki Brijeg goalkeeper Igor Melher did well to save.

Gurbanov chance
Tagizade was in lively form and had another chance to test Melher five minutes later but again failed to find the net. Then, in the 38th minute, Mahmud Gurbanov was given a chance to try his luck with a free-kick but again Melher was in the way. It was not all one-way traffic however, with Danijel Bajkuša firing in a volley just before half-time that Neftchi goalkeeper Huseyn Mahammadov did well to stop.

Tabi goal
At the start of the second half, Široki Brijeg did their best to raise the home support. Coach Ivo Ištuk introduced two attacking players including Juricic and was rewarded in the 69th minute when Juricic played in Cameroonian team-mate Tabi to score the opening goal. Istuk was then given further cheer five minutes later when Domagoj Abramovic crossed for Jurcic to head in from six metres.

Baku return
Široki Brijeg were on course for a dream result in their first-ever match in the European Champion Clubs' Cup but they could not hold firm. A minute into added time, captain Rashad Sadigov made room on the wing and crossed for the hard-working Tagizade to direct the ball into the net. The Azeri side will have every confidence they can reach the second qualifying round after next week's return in Baku.

But my heart is with CSKA and i dont hope we will have to meet Real madrid, i hope for a PSV or a greek team

Siroki lost 1-0, and therefore are out. That late goal that they gave up did it to them, because that gave 2 away goals for Neftchi.

Siroki was a worthy opponent, but finally we made to the second round it was bound to happend, although I was dissapointed with our team since we had so many clear goal chances but we missed, it could have been all over in the first half.

But anyway good luck to Siroki in Bosnia next year :smileani:

well that team was composed of mostly Azerbaijan NT players..so they were not bad..I think you could have given Siroki a slight edge, but maybe not even that. So I dont think its a huge surprise, but it definetley is a dissapointment.
