Intertoto Cup - Sloboda

(Freedom) Sloboda is the BiH representative in the UEFA Intertoto Cup that kicks of this weekend. I don't know how that happened as i would have thought that Sarajevo and/or Leotar would have loved to play here as they finished above SLoboda but Sloboda was the only team that showed interest and hopefully they will emulate their respectable run from last year's Intertoto Cup.

Cheers!!

Publikum - Sloboda Tuzla 2:1

not a bad result for Sloboda, the away goal comes in quite handy. reverse fixture is gonna be played in 7 days.

Trnava are a tricky team (especially at home), but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bosnian team advance.... it will be a very close two games...

Yeah i hope you're right but Sloboda is having problems fielding a full strength team. Their best player Vojvodic is a Celik player as of tomorrow and Crnogorac got a red card agains Publikum so he won't be available but Sloboda has always been know as a team of figthers so i wouldn't be surprised if they went through.

Go you salty boys!!!!

Salty?

If that is a reference to the fact Tuzla used to be called Soli (err, Sloboda is from Tuzla no?), well, that's quite the stretch there

Sloboda is from Tuzla
Tuzla is famous for salt production
Tuzla is therefore known as the 'Salt city' (Grad soli)...
that makes 'Tuzlaci' a very salty people
'Fukare' are Sloboda's supporters who are from Tuzla (Salt City) and often make reference to their salty heritage (ponosni da su slani)....
and hence i said: 'go you salty boys'

what an equation!!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Not bad, they didn't lose a lot..gives them a chance at least.

That is an awsome result, Sloboda only needs a 1:0 scoreline to go through and that is completely doable.... Considering that Sloboda is having problems with a decimated team, this is an achievement.

Mirza Mesic has signed for SLoboda and will be eligable for the return leg of the Intertoto Cup against Trnava in Ugljevik. That's great news for Sloboda as Mirza is a quality player with plenty of domestic and international experience.

they lost 1-0 in the return leg, aggregate of 3-1, so they are out.

I don't know what's the bigger joke - the club or the firm's name. Their fans don't know the definition of class/hospitality. It's a shame, too, because these single-club-cities have tremendous potential.

I'm 50/50 on them, as 90% of their fans are decent (especially the older fan base), and have a good history dating back to the Yugo days.

However, the newer generation of Sloboda fans, especially the Salt city boys firm, are generally messed up kids from Podrinje, Siptars/Gorani and other minorities who live in their "naselje" or "ghettos", which encircle the nice parts of the town.

I nearly was robbed by one of these "younger" fans on my travels to Bosnia 2 years ago. I managed to track the guy down on facebook, he has a Siptar name but I'm suspecting he's Gorani, because he has numerous photos with Serbian National team players

I just find that so weird. IIRC, Tuzla is our third largest city, and it's so poorly represented. I guess everyone there is more concerned with hip hop than they are with football.
