Brawl brings Sarajevo friendly to an early end
SARAJEVO: A brawl involving players, coaching staff and fans during a pre-season friendly match between city rivals Sarajevo and Zeljeznicar had to be broken up by police on Tuesday.
The clash broke out at the end of the first half when Zeljeznicar coach Amar Osim, his coaching staff and reserve players ran on to the pitch after Sarajevo’s Ajdin Maksumic committed a foul on skipper Dzelaludin Muharemovic.
Sarajevo’s bench and several supporters of both teams also invaded the pitch.
The referee abandoned the match with the score at 0-0.
Sarajevo, had Ivan Knezovic sent off in the 38th minute for a foul on Zeljeznicar midfielder Arben Avdija.
The two teams were playing in the semi-final of a tournament marking the 10th anniversary of the capital’s First Division side Olimpik.
Bosnia’s Premier League – with teams from Muslim, Serb and Croat areas – was launched last season for the first time since the 1992-95 war, and featured some inter-ethnic violence. – Reuters
