EURO 2008 qualifications
Althought the WC 2006 qualifying tournament is not over, Macedonia is already (we started a year ago, since the disaster 1:0 defeat in La Vella) thinking on the next chanse for playing in a big tounament, EURO 2008 in Austria/Switzerland. FFM appointed Santrac with only one duty, to make a competitive team, good enough for the 2nd place (no play-offs, the first 2 nations will go directly in EURO 04) in the next qualifications. After just 4 matches in charge, Santrac resigned (1 win, 3 defeats, g-d 4:12, no friendlies were played). His succesor Boban Babunski (still a v.d. but Im sure hell stay with the NT) has a hard job to achieve. Why? Lets see!
UEFA has 52 members (Kazakhstan joined last), 2 of them will be qualifyed automaticaly as hosts (Austria and Switzerland). The remain 50 nations well de divided into 7 groups (1 group with 8 teams(!) and 6 with 7 teams). Greece, as reigning European champions will be seeded into the firts pole along with 6 other nations with best ranking coefficients in the last 2 qualifying tounaments (for EURO 2004 and WC 2006). The total number of points obtained in both of qualifying competitions will be divided by the number of matches played for each nation. So, it is not important what position Macedonia will finish, important are the points that we get.
In this moment, with 3 rounds left in each group I made some calculations and I got shocking results! Macedonian ranking has been sunk deeper than Titanic!!!!! Here are my results, which will get changed a bit, not a lot, in the 3 rounds left.
Kazakhstan*, Luxembourg*, San Marino*, Malta*, Faroe Is.*, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Azerbaijan (one nations well be seeded in pole 8)
Northern Ireland, Armenia, Belorussia, Moldova, Macedonia, Cyprus, Georgia
Wales, Island, Albania, Estonia, Lithuania, Israel, Finland
Scotland, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Hungary*, Ireland*, Slovakia
Bulgaria, Danmark, Latvia, Norway, Serbia and Montenegro, Ukraine, Romania*
Russia*, Spain, Turkey, Italy, Poland, Germany, Sweden
Croatia, France, Czech, Portugal, Nederland, England, Greece
*same coefficients (all coefficiants are in force untill 7 September)
- Kazakhstan, Luxembourg and San Marino (0,00)
- Malta and Faroe Is. (0,125)
- Hungary and Ireland (1,61607)
- Romania and Russia (1,875)
Macedonia in this moment has a coefficient of 0,775 which is a very small!
We got used to be in pole 4, but now suddenly we found ourselfs in pole 6 along with teams like Cyprus, Northern Ireland, Armenia.... teams that have always been behind Macedonia. We have 2 matches left (Finland and Nederland, both away) and if we want to reach pole 5 we must win them both. But stll there is no sureness that well be in pole 5. Cyprus, Georgia and Wales must lose all their matches!
GOOD LUCK MR. BABUN!!!
