Euro qualifying 2008 thread

A bit early but I read a interesting articel in a macedonian newspaper about EuroQ 2008 so I can open the thread today and we can bring it up in a year again.

It seem like Uefa will change the system forQ and it will give all team a bigger chance to qualifying which is great.. All Q groups will have 7 team and the first one will automatic all the 2 placed teams will play play off like the WCQ2006 and ECQ2004, Now the new thing is that all teams who end in third place will also play in Play offs which is great.

Dragan Kanatlarovski is more then happy and say in this artical that our young generation will not let this golden chance go away.. Also we will hope for a bit more easy group he say.

Euro 2008 qualification changes?

Teams that finish as low as third in their qualifying groups for Euro 2008 could still reach the finals if UEFA agrees a new qualification process for the tournament on Wednesday.

UEFA's executive committee may decide to have seven qualifying groups, with the winners qualifying automatically for the finals and the second- and third-placed teams playing off for the right to join them.

With co-hosts Austria and Switzerland qualifying automatically, there are 50 countries chasing the remaining 14 places in the finals.

UEFA is considering having six qualifying groups of seven teams and one group of eight.

In a bid to keep the competition alive to the closing stages, only the winners would qualify automatically while the second- and third-placed teams would go into a play-off round.

William Gaillard, UEFA's director of communications, said: 'This is one proposal which the executive committee will discuss on Wednesday. They may of course decide against it, but it is on the agenda.'

The executive committee will also discuss proposals to stipulate how many 'homegrown' players should be included in club squads in the future.

Worried too many teams are losing their national identities, UEFA wants a number of players developed through local youth systems, either at club or national level, included in squads in the future.

They also want first team squads restricted to 25 players as is the case with clubs taking part in the Champions League.

The proposal will be on the agenda at UEFA's annual congress in Tallinn in April and may run into opposition from the European Union which could deem it a restriction on trade.

The executive committee, who are meeting at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, will also consider which cities will host the European club finals in 2006 and 2007.

These changes would be great! I hope Dragan Kanatlarovski means what he said by saying that he will not let this chance go away!

7-teams group are making much smaller chances to weeker and mid-teams to qualify. There will be no surprise like Latvia. With the 5-teams group this sensation was possible, but now it's not

Cementarnica in Vtora Liga 2009/2010
Cementarnica - Miravci 2:0 (Kostadinovski 40'-pen. Naumcevski 43')
Belasica - Cementarnica 1:2 (Markov 24' - Donev 9'-og Trajkovski 47')
Cementarnica - 11 Oktomvri 2:1 (Jakovlevski 15' 77' - Kostadinovski 26'-og)
Cementarnica - Belasica 4:1 (Braga 23' 38' Ristovski 43' Kostadinovski 63' - Jurcevski 88')

well is that really good news ? i don't know. but i can only increase our chances to qualify. you can add small teams but not big ones...this promises hard battles between equal level teams as p-c said but also more surprising results.

This is very good for all small teams in europ and will justify them even more when almost all teams in europ have realistic chance to beamong the top 3 in the group.... It will make every group much more interesting from the first game to the last.

With this team we have if we ever get a good coach and FFM take things seriously then we shoudl be able to qualify in 2008 especially if Pandev becomes a superstar.
