New coach Hristovski has to deal with Kjumbev huge loss in defense and with not less than 6 or 7 arrivals. the team conceded teh 2 goals in the second half while hristovski changed almost the entire squad.

Pobeda plump for Hristovski
Sunday, 27 June 2004
Dragan Hristovski has been named as the new coach of F.Y.R. Macedonian champions FK Pobeda.

Disappointing season
Hristovski, who has signed a two-year deal with the Prilep outfit, was formerly coach of FK Bregalnica Štip, FK Vardar and FK Pelister before a brief spell at FK Tikves ended just two months into last season after a series of disappointing results. Tikves were eventually relegated.

Maiden championship
Hristovski will replace Nikola Ilievski at the helm, after the former F.Y.R. Macedonia coach resigned for family reasons just two weeks after leading the club to its maiden championship title and a place in the UEFA Champions League. Pobeda will enter at the first qualifying round against Armenian side FC Pyunik, with the first leg on 13 July.

Tough start
Meanwhile, Hristovski will have a challenging start to the domestic campaign at the Goce Delcev stadium. Pobeda play last year's runners-up FK Sileks in the opening round of the new Prva Fudbalska Liga season on 8 August.

it's simply catastrophic !

pobeda - pyunnik erevan : 1-3
omonia - sloga : 4 - 0
sileks - maribor : 0-1
schalke04 - vardar : 5-0

we are simply ridiculous this year whereas we behaved very well last year...
i can understand vardar couldn't qualify against schalke and that maribor may be a tough opponent. sloga is out mainly because of financial issues and horrible preparation that almost costed them a disqualification from the uefa cup! this club is in really bad shape. Pobeda cannot accept its best players left and their coach too. rebuilding a squad with 7 new players in the starting 11 in such a short time looked just impossible for new coach hristovski.
see you next year Europe ...

Kvas motivates Maribor
Thursday, 15 July 2004
A goal just before half-time from Andrej Kvas gave visiting NK Maribor a priceless first-leg lead against FK Sileks of F.Y.R. Macedonia in this UEFA Cup first qualifying round tie.

Andrej Kvas in action against Sileks

Solitary strike
Kvas struck from 14 metres in added time at the end of the first period following a neat pass from Dominik Beršnjak. It was to be the only goal of the game of a match that featured several chances for both sides and means the Slovenian side will be firm favourites to progress after the return contest at their Ljudski vrt stadium on 29 July.

Good opening
Sileks had started brightly, finding room to fire in three shots from distance in the opening half-hour. Captain Aleksandar Konjanovski was at the heart of the home side's forays forward but in the 30th minute it was Branislav Arsenievic who spurned a great chance from five metres. Then, soon afterwards, Dalibor Stojkovic shot over the Maribor goal when well-placed.

Warning shot
After going behind to that Kvas strike, the home side kept up the pressure in the second half but were made to pay for their continued profligacy. Dragan Jelic fired a warning shot in the 51st minute but the chance went just wide. Stevica Ristic then had two more opportunities for Sileks but was denied each time by Maribor’s in-form goalkeeper Tomaz Murko.

Header saved
Milan Rakic nearly doubled the visitors' lead in the 67th minute from ten metres before Sileks were presented with three more chances to equalise. Dimitrar Spasovski had two of them, but each was wasted and when Konjanovski's header was saved in the 80th minute, the home crowd knew it was not to be their night at the Gradski stadium.

Schalke start in style
Saturday, 17 July 2004
FC Schalke 04 enjoyed the biggest win of the night as the UEFA Intertoto Cup third round opened with nine first-leg ties on Saturday.

New boys
Schalke new boys Mladen Krstajic and Ailton both scored in a 5-0 home victory over F.Y.R. Macedonia's NK Vardar. Krstajic struck Schalke's first from close range after 19 minutes and after Hamit Altintop had doubled the lead, Ailton made it 3-0 with a low drive five minutes after the break. Thomas Kläsener and Zlatko Tanevski's own goal completed the scoreline.

Romeo leads fightback
Hamburger SV fought back to draw 2-2 at FC Thun. The Swiss side led 2-0 at the break through goals from Antonio Dos Santos and Mario Raimondi but Bernardo Romeo reduced the deficit five minutes into the second period and he struck again in the 85th minute. Germany's other representatives, BV Borussia Dortmund, won 1-0 at KRG Genk thanks to David Odonkor's 41st-minute goal.

Novo opener
Club Atlético de Madrid were 4-2 winners at FC Zlín. Álvaro Novo gave the Spaniards the perfect start with a goal in the first minute and although Jaroslav Svach's header restored parity shortly after the break, Atlético did not look back after Veljko Paunovic had made it 2-1 in the 71st minute.

Better luck
Paunovic again and then Kizito Musampa made it 4-1 before Svach struck a late consolation. The other Czech side in action had better luck as FC Slovan Liberec beat Roda JC 1-0 thanks to Petr Papoušek's goal after 20 minutes.

Leiria hit four
Portugal's UD Leiria won 4-1 at FC Shinnik Yaroslavl in Russia. Leiria trailed to Yaroslav Haritonski's early goal but Laranjeiro's 41st-minute free-kick drew them level and they won the match by scoring three times in the final 20 minutes through Fábio Felício, an Evgeny Karev own goal and Edson.

LOSC win
Meanwhile, three goals in just six minutes decided Lille OSC's home tie against FC Dinamo Minsk. Nicolas Plestan put the hosts ahead after 23 minutes, Leanid Kovel levelled three minutes later, and then Matt Moussilou restored LOSC's lead in the 29th minute. Finally, Sonny Anderson's 51st-minute goal earned Villarreal CF a 1-0 home victory over FC Spartak Moskva.

Omonia ease to victory
Thursday, 15 July 2004
Cypriot side AC Omonia have one foot in the UEFA Cup second qualifying round after overpowering FK Sloga Jugomagnat of F.Y.R. Macedonia at Nicosia's GSP stadium.

Franciszek Smuda coached Omonia to victory

Strong support
Spurred on by more than 12,000 fans, Omonia took the early initiative and posed a constant threat to Jane Nikoloski's goal. But Sloga defended in numbers and 40 minutes had elapsed before the home side finally broke the deadlock when Elias Charalambous converted Efstathios Aloneftis's cross.

Early strike
Omonia shifted up a gear in the second period and within two minutes had doubled their advantage. The industrious Aloneftis again provided the centre - this time from a corner - which was met with a powerful header from Slovakian international striker Josef Kozlej.

Vezer unfazed
The goal was the cue for Sloga to abandon their defensive formation and they pushed men forward in search of a reply but could not break down the stubborn Cypriot back-line. For all the away side's effort, Omonia goalkeeper Adam Vezer did not have to make a notable save all game.

Makris makes mark
Indeed it was Omonia who eventually added to the scoreline. The home side brought on the promising Antonis Makris with 20 minutes remaining and the young striker rubbed salt in the Sloga wounds with two late goals.

'Anything can happen'
Sloga coach Adnan Zekir believes that all is not lost though. "Omonia were better than us today but in 14 days we will be in better shape than we were tonight," he said. "In football, anything can happen and it's possible that this deficit can be overturned."

Fabulous fans
Omonia coach Franciszek Smuda concurred. "The tie is not over yet and we should expect a tougher game in Skopje," he said. "I am very happy with my team's performance though and the support from our fans was fabulous."

This was the worst season for Macedonian CLubs from many, many years. In 2003/2004 was a wins of Cementarnica in UEFA Cup and Vardar in CL, and also Pobeda playd well in Intertoto. In this year is catastrophic, the only good mater is Vardar in Intertoto, but the last matches was also tragic. Sileks playd well, but they have no luck.
