Sloga Jugomagnat won the Cup !
Beciri seals Sloga success
Monday, 24 May 2004
Ardjent Beciri's early goal proved enough for FK Sloga Jugomagnat to win the Macedonian Cup for the third time with a narrow victory against FK Napredok.
Beciri pounced five minutes into the match, capitalising on uncertainty in the Napredok defence to shoot past goalkeeper Nikola Zerdeski from eight metres out.
Sloga dominated the match and created the better opportunities, with Ljubisa Savic heading Goran Stankovski's cross against the crossbar from close range in the last minutes of the first half.
Nebi Mustafi's 25-metre shot was comfortably saved by Zerdeski ten minutes into the second half, while Beciri might have scored his and Sloga's second five minutes from time as he latched on to Arben Nuhii's pass but this time Zerdeski was equal to his shot, producing a fine reaction save. The victory followed Sloga’s successes in 1996 and 2000 in the competition, while the club fell at the final hurdle in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2003.
"It was tough match, but we deserved to win," said Sloga coach Adnan Zekir. "We missed several chances to score more goals and secure a more comfortable lead. I want to congratulate to my players for winning in this final."
"It was a hard game," said Sloga captain Esad Colakovic, who was playing in his seventh final. "Napredok were tough opponents but we played better and deserve to win."
Dignified in defeat
"We gave our all to try to win but Sloga was favorite and justified that in the end," said Napredok coach Dragan Bocevski. "I'm sad that only one goal decided the final, but I want to congratulate Sloga for winning the match."
so we'll see sloga in the uefa cup next year...
