Ciric in Macedonian farewell
Wednesday, 21 April 2004
Striker Saša Ciric will make a farewell appearance for F.Y.R. Macedonia in their friendly against Croatia on Wednesday before retiring from international football.
The 36-year-old, who plays for 1. FC Nürnberg in Germany, will take part in just 15 minutes of the game in Skopje before hanging up his boots. Ciric has 25 international caps, and his eight goals leave him third in his country's scoring chart behind Georgi Hristov and Artim Sakiri.
National-team coach Dragan Kanatlarovski has called AEK Athens FC defender and former Under-21 player Goran Popov into the senior squad for the first time.
F.Y.R. Macedonia and Croatia have met three times, with the Macedonians earning a 1-1 draw in Skopje in a UEFA EURO 2000™ qualifier before losing the return 3-2 in Zagreb. The sides drew 2-2 in a friendly last year.
