Things are looking quite good. Several tough matches left though, but at least it's good to know that it's up to the lads themselves. If they get the results they need, they will eventually get promoted.

5 wins and 1 draw (and 1 defeat of course, choose where ) could be sufficient. It's a pity that CP started to make points late otherwise they could be at the top of the table and struggle with Norwich and WBA for the 2 direct places.

5 wins, 1 draw ,1 loss. Toni, the Boss agree's with you

By Gordon Law, Streatham Post

PALACE boss Iain Dowie reckons his side need to produce championship-winning form for an outside bet of making the play-offs.

Palace are still on a high in the form table, but need to string some wins together if that is to be reflected in the league that matters.

With results going Palace's way at the weekend - unless you take into account Millwall's victory in the FA Cup semi-final - Dowie was in optimistic mood.

"Results did go well at the weekend," said Dowie.

"But we can't worry about other teams. We've got seven games left so let's go for it.

"Last weekend's break (Palace were due to play Sunderland) means the lads should be refreshed and have plenty of energy. We have three games in six days or so and we've trained intensely.

"My teams will always be fit and organised. The lads were out on their feet on Friday but we'll crack on now."

* Ian Dowie could play in Steve Kember's testimonial game on May 11 at Selhurst Park.

There will be a Veterans game between Palace and Chelsea before a Palace All-Star side take on the current Eagles side.

Among those confirmed as playing will be Attillo Lombardo, Ian Wright, Mark Bright, Jim Cannon, John Salako, Steve Coppell and Simon Rodger.

"I would not like there to be a glut of demand from female fans so I do not want to confirm I'm playing," joked Dowie.

Kember himself has been delighted with the response from former players.

"I wrote down an ex-Palace side and thought if I could get a few of them to play or just appear on the night I would have done well," said Kember.

"Since the first phonecall it has just grown and grown - the response has been unbelievable.

"The first person I approached was Lombardo's agent and I expected to hear back in a few days. But within half an hour the response came back that he would love to come and play. The response has been pretty much the same from everybody else I have contacted - it's been top quality."

Cardiff vs Palace

No new injury problems after the midweek win at Rotherham so the team will probably be unchanged....
Vaesen
Butterfield Hudson Popovic Granville
Routledge Riihilahti Hughes Gray
Johnson Shipperley

Highly rated young midfielder Ben Watson is now fit after a hernia op' and should soon be pressing for a place in the squad

Tomorrow would be a good time for AJ to get back on the goal trail

Palace vs West Ham

Neil Shipperley went off injured against Cardiff and faces a fitness test before todays game. Dougie Freedman will play if Shipps fails to make it. Centre Back Mark Hudson plays his last game on loan and will be returning to Fulham:depress:

Live com'here

West Brom and Norwich could do big favours by beating Millwall and Reading respectivley
Sunderland play Ipswich.

Another vital win in the late surge for a play off place
So much for the academy of football,West Ham were dirty :fero: Pardew must have got them too pumped before kick off. Repka was lucky not to get a straight red when he hacked down AJ early on . There were few chances in an even 1st half, but the game turned on the 36th minute dismissal of David Connolly. Already booked, Connolly ran through Danny Butterfield's clearance and left the Palace defender on the floor, the ref had no hesitation in producing the 2nd yellow and then the red card. The West Ham players and fans went loopy, coins were being thrown onto the pitch and Butterfield was subjected to abuse from both players and fans alike
From my position behind the goal i couldn't tell if Connolly had made contact or not, but he paid the price for his teams physical approach. Butterfield was booed for the rest of the half but tested GK Srnicek with a long range effort before The Irons had their two best chances of the game. The Palace defence lost concentration just before half time and allowed Dailly to beat the offside trap from a freekick, unmarked on the edge of the area he shot horribly wide Seconds later, defensive dithering allowed Harewood to break into the box but he shot tamley across the 6 yard box.
The 2nd half began with Palace in complete control and using the 1 man advantage well
66 mins GOOOOOOOOL!! Derry's inswinging corner from the left was nodded on by Johnson, Dougie Freedman tapped in at the far post Palace were rampant and Srnicek had to make great saves from AJx2 and Julian Gray and also had a goal ruled out for offside and a penalty claim turned down.
Zamora and Deane came on for WH but failed to make any impression on a solid Palace back 4, who held out for the win

Ipswich 1-0 Sunderland
Millwall 1-1 West brom
Reading 0-1 Norwich great assist by the ref

Not a geat game. Palace were too reliant on the long ball up to Shipperley and didn't exert any control over the midfield until Derry replaced Riihilahti after an hour.Credit must go to Wigan who worked extremley hard, denying Palace time and space.

Wigan took the lead right on half time when Ellington's shot took a big deflection and looped over the keeper.
The second half was a bit better, AJ cut in from the right and shot against a post, he then shot over the bar after good work by Danny B on the right. Wigan didn't create anything clear cut, but with Roberts and Ellington up front ,they were always a threat.
The equaliser came from a Routledge free kick on the right. Danny G got his head to the cross at the far post but Filan brilliantly scooped the ball away(did it cross the line?) only for Granville to head the rebound back in Palace piled forward for the last 10 minutes, Granville had a free kick tipped over but Wigan held on for a deserved draw despite being reduced to 9 men in the 90th minute :depress:

Can't afford any more dropped points...Sunderland (h) Wednesday night is a must win:fero:
Unfortunatley, Palace have not won a midweek league game at Selhurst for nearly 2 years
Centre back Mark Hudson will now return to Fulham after completing the maximum allowed loan period, there is a rumour that Palace are trying to sign him for good, offering £250k + £500k if promoted. Fulham want £500k now with £250k on promotion

I was really happy when we got that equaliser, but I'm afraid that the draw today can leave Palace a few points short at the end of the season. Winning against Sunderland seems really difficult, but if they do win, the table is going to look really interesting in front of the last rounds.

Yeah, those extra 2 points would have been very useful today:depress:
Sunderland play WBA tomorrow, so that's going to be a tough game for them, gives palace an extra day to recover though.
Losing Hudson is going to be a big blow, he's formed a really good partnership with Popovic. Leigertwood is likley to step in against Sunderland. Popovic then has a 2 game ban vs Crewe and Walsall

Anything other than a Sunderland win tonight sees Norwich automatically promoted, and means the WBA can gain promotion on Saturday.

after losing to us in the manner they did on Sunday, the Mackems will either be gutted and you'll roll them over, or they will be out for revenge and they'll really give it a go.

Yup:depress:
Tonight Liegertwood, a young player signed from MK W'don, is likley to partner Toni Popovic at centre back. Palace have tried to sign Hudson from Fulham but they are arguing over the fee, even though the player has agreed personal terms and passed the medical So Mark will go back to Fulham and play for their reserve side as he has very little chance of getting a prem' league game( 7th choice CB @ Fulham:rollani: )
Should Manager Iain Dowie decide that he needs more experience at the back ,he may select assistant coach and former caretaker player manager Kit Symons (he's soooo slow).

With Millwall losing at home last night a win would take Palace above them and level on points with West Ham. It will be a shame if the season comes to an end because we have run out of centre backs

Yes that means that Norwich are promoted, WBa can gain promotion on Saturday with a draw agaisnt Bradford.

Also Palace have now moved upto 7th on goal diff from WHU in 6th.

I think having Mart Poom sent off after 20 minutes may have had a hand in the procedings though

Jinx Busters

Yeah, Poom brought down AJ , the ref waited to see if the ball went in before giving the pen'. If it had I guess Poom would have stayed on But who was the sub' goalie?..........only Thomas Mhyre in 2 months on loan to Palace earlier in the season how many AJ pens would he have faced in training :nervous:
Great performance and result though, never would have picked it Freedman scored a beauty
