Sounds like a done deal that's just awaiting an official announcement.

Eh, if he keeps them up (which given their squad and fixture list is quite manageable imo), it's a good project for him. He was willing to go to West Ham last summer until the Madrid opportunity came up, and the Newcastle job isn't a lesser job than the West Ham one.

McClaren gone finally.

Hopefully whoever comes in can have an immediate effect because the team clearly has good players and talent (on paper that is) but lacked any kind of organisation under McClaren. Leicester away isn't an easy start though.

Of the remaining fixtures, we have the most favourable but the players have to step up to the plate.....especially the likes of Sissoko in particular and even Wijnaldum who is a spectator at away games 99% of the time.

Agreed. The other "big" clubs (Prem League) already have top managers in place so I'm not sure whether they'd consider Benitez ....we might be the next best thing despite our precarious situation but anyway...if he keeps us up and if indeed Ashley has changed his ways regarding the structure there is good potential ...it's all ifs and buts though. Priority #1 keep us up

Tragic news, RIP Tiote.

One time we played Cagliari and before the game I asked him: 'Do you know the name of the centre-back of Cagliari?' 'No'. 'No?! You are not a professional. You have to know the skills of the opponent. You have to know the name of the centre-back'. 'Mister', said Ronaldo, 'I don't know the name of the player I play against. But he knows me'!''
