Bridge has effectively retired from England!

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-c...739&ver=global

So the potential problem won't show up, but just lost yet another potetnial player for the world cup who is starting to find his form again. The wheels are starting to come off a bit. And I bet Ridgewell or someone equally lame gets called up over Baines.

Whats the bet we have a few more get long term injuries soon?

Bridge retiring is great news persoanlly. I dont think he has been all that since coming back. Baines is a huge improvement over him and Warnock isnt bad either. I just hope Capello doesnt put Lescott there

Bridge has played very well since coming back actually Deano. He was poor before his injury but since then he's played well.

Still I would take Baines over him any day of the week and if Bridge wanted to play for England, Capello would have chosen him above Baines.

Yeah, he has been playing much better and I'd have had Baines and Bridge if all things were normal. Nice of Bridge to think of the team I guess, could be for selfish reasons but at least he knew his time was up and could leave with pride. *cough* BECKHAM!!!! *cough*

You're right though Deano, I assumed Capello would go out and get a shitty leftback instead of picking Baines but will probably use Lescott. Who is a much better leftback than a centerback but still massively inferior to Baines. I never understand how managers can pick the likes of Crouch, Heskey, Jenas, Downing and so on and completely ignore vastly more talented players. I understood at first with Capello as he may not know all the English players which is fair enough, but he has been here long enough now to see for himself how there are better options. Nowhere near as bad as Sven but still frustrating.

Bridge is a fanny who should never ever have been called up. Not bothered in the slightest.

Without it gravity is just gravy.

Worst case scenario:

If Terry goes into melt down and pulls out of the team; the Coles, Lennon, Johnson and Ferdinand are declared not fit. Do we still have a chance?

Green
Brown - Upson - Campbell - Baines
SWP - Carrick - Barry - Gerrard
Rooney - Defoe

Without it gravity is just gravy.

Campbell? If he plays for England again, I'm turning Welsh!

If people were to make their squad today who would be in it? Sorry, I'm just so out of touch with England I just want to see what players people would have in their 23.

Taking injuries into consideration, or not? It's hard to pick a squad now to take to SA with so many question marks over people's names. If we were to play a game tomorrow it would be pretty close to the one that played against Egypt. Minus Lampard.

Green
Brown - Terry - Upson - Baines
Walcott - Carrick - Barry - Gerrard
Rooney - Defoe

Hopefully the first game of the WC will look something like this:

Green/Hart
Johnson - Ferdinand - Terry - A Cole
Walcott - Carrick - Barry - Gerrard
Rooney - Defoe

Without it gravity is just gravy.

I don't think Walcott should go at this point in time he has done nothing.

Rooney and Defoe can't play together.

Rob Green is a bit dodgy but Capello seems to like him.

I thought that about Walcott and he was no where near any squad of mine. Until his last game for Arsenal, he was superb.

Against a Burnley team who have 1 point from away games. If he builds on that and Lennon doesn't get back to fitness then he will go I think. This season Lennon and Milner have outshone him and for England SWP has done better than him so he is no certainty. The one thing on his side is that he can play on the wing and up front.

How long is Brown out for? Surely Richards would be worth taking to the world cup now?

England have so much potential in the wide role now. Johnson and Cole not even being called is a measure of that. Such a shame though, one of these spots will definitely (avoiding injury) be filled by Walcott, who is a really poor player. Championship level player who had a good game against Croatia and will live off it. Even League Two players have played like Premiership players in the FA Cup before Doesnt make them consistently brilliant.

On today's form I'd take Johnson over SWP any day.
