Unfortunately I couldn't watch the derby last week but after reading about the game and watching the highlights what happened in that game was not exactly surprising.
This last stretch of the season showed the team lacking the same attacking threat that we've seen earlier mainly because we have little options upfront besides Slimani. Teo keeps disappointing, Barcos is still adapting and Montero is no longer there. We also showed a very high percentage of missed clear goal chances which is getting to epic proportions. These 6 points dropped against Rio Ave, Guimarães and Benfica (all teams that posed us more or less the same amount of threat, ie. close to none) are all due to our lack of accuracy in front of goal and that also includes our midfielders and not just the strikers.
Another unsurprising factor was the leniency with which refs act whenever Benfica is playing. Unbelievable how Renato Sanches managed to escape a sending off after what he did. Only in a corrupt little league like ours really.
Now we have a much harder list of matches in front of us when compared with those of Benfica and Porto but we will not give up. We need to improve our efficiency and we need to go on working hard, as these are things that are in our hands. Controlling the refs, manipulating the media and selling drugs in our stadium it's for others, not for us.
Today we visit Estoril in a sold out stadium surely almost entirely filled with our fans. Win it, that's all we ask.
