Name changes

As some of you may have noticed, there are quite a few members with changed names posting on the forum. This has led to questions and I'll explain the reason here.

VerticalScope is convinced that they have finally figured out how to prevent the technical glitches and downtime that we've been experiencing from time to time. It seem the forum's database has gotten so large that even the most powerful servers cannot cope with it. VBulletin software is not designed for forums the size of Xtratime, so it simply isn't capable of dealing with the millions of posts that have been created throughout our 10 year history.

Recently their lead technical consultant has found a possible solution. One of the major problems is the double indexing that occurs when the forum software has to link posts with usernames. Each username also has a registration number and to link the two together is an unnecessary step in the process. If that step can be eliminated it will clear up quite a bit of processing power, that can then be used to have the forum running smoothly again.

So two weeks from now the usernames will be replaced by only a registration number. So instead of Boyo, I will simply be called 1874 (my registration number). It will take some getting used to at first, but I'm convinced that we'll all know each other's numbers soon enough.

Also this will mean that soon people can no longer change their usernames, as we won't have usernames anymore. Because of that several members have changed their username to something frivolous, as it's the last chance there is. If you would like your username changed, you can request a name change in the thread in the Questions & Suggestions forum (see link below).

If I'm gonna lose my precious name in a couple of weeks, and I mean IF, then why would I want to change it to something idiotic? You guys are such children. I'm sure you'd jump off a cliff if the admins recommended it.

There is no way I'm going to become a number. The only one acceptable to me is 9+9

When all the lights go out forever
Somewhere near the end of time
The noise will pass and the dust will settle
And you'll be on my mind

How come certain members changed their name prior to your announcement of the change? Oh, I get it. They are part of the insider gang calling all the shots in this joint.

Well, I demand equality! The corrupt oppressors at the top must go. I hereby officially join Dabdob's demand for elections.

That is all. Have a nice day!

Yours truly,

concerned citizen Nacka

P.S. Screw you all!

Citizen Nacka. Please report to the Xtratime head office on Monday. You should use the back entrance, in the alley behind the main building. Two gentlemen will be waiting for you there to go over the procedures.

I can't, my passport expired...

I'll be getting a new one soon though.

Can't your friends come visit me instead? When they drive from the airport they should take the exit to the iceroad. Once on the iceroad tell them to head for the area sealed off with red cones and tape. It's alright, just drive through the tape, it's a marker for the secret elevator to my underwater HQ.

Again, all your good intentions are was wasted by troublemakers such as you. If you can not see the beauty of the attitude and the sacrifice we are willing to make with the name change you should at least be quiet in your little cave. But no, every revolutionary step is twarted by complaints, who here ever been in the museum? No, but our Punkette B have and she said "Attitude rocks, fight the absence of stabilishment and you will have stabilishment". See, what a XT consultant do?
But you can not be a team player, rather an art critic, with no capacity to reckonize the winds of change. Sure, sure... Why playing a guitar if you can whistle?

Don't try to confuse me with irrelevant gibberish. I'm on to you!

For April Fools I'd like to change my name to Hamburg_Koydu ... probably change it in a couple days. Thank you.

As announced two weeks ago, today was going to be the day where all usernames would be replaced by the member registration numbers. The announcement caused quite a bit of commotion and many members changed their names to something frivolous for the final two weeks, to them and to all those who are wondering why we still have usernames, I say... April Fools.

And to all that knew it was an april joke (and those who didn't saw several posters pointing it), we agreed that I will, only I, be the responsable to change the names back... so, good luck...
