I demand an answer to my question

My weekly rant!

"For a moment there I returned to my youth, the early youth, when all nice illusions were gathered together. Then life came and, like a strong wind, blew them away, one by one. What we call happiness is sometimes the accordance between our life and circumstances, our biography and history, our personal aspirations and historical currents. If I look at things that way, I can say: I was born too early to be happy. But birth is one of the many things we do not get to choose. It is part of our destiny."

From now on, active and deserving of a forum: having 2/3 or preferably more fans who regularly watch the side's games live, so not fans who only are able to watch the side once or twice a season as debates'd be hard to hold.
It indeed is tough with the smaller sides as you'd need to be more locally. Respect though to fans like bartle the Notts Forest fan supporting smaller sides in foreign leagues cos it's far easier to support a big side.

it's the best way we're having it now. Now these threads are catching the eye of other clubs posters too. Before these closed forums hadn't got replies for more than a couple of weeks and even months in the case of Fulham.

Because there's no point to it in a community such as ours.

Public groups aren't public at all. They are groups that members can form, and are only open to those members that the group leader wants to join, based on purely subjective criteria. So it's something very restrictive. And that while the Xtratime community is all about being as open as possible for everyone. So there wouldn't be a point to it in a our community such as ours.

Moreover, public groups was a feature launched I believe by phpbb a long time ago, and at one point touted as a great new thing, but surprise surprise.. noone ever seems to use it because it's pointless. As a forum admin at the time, I didn't get the point of it, and now years later I can see that it was indeed pretty pointless.

Ok, pretty much what I have thought. What drives me to ask about it is this: https://www.xtratime.org/forum/showthread.php?t=212652

We are in the process of organizing a group where it is part of XT community; but needs its space to discuss formalities with regards to tickets, distribution, cost, etc. Something that can be done through a mailing list or something. But why not to stay at XT; where we will have a little bit of privacy, and at the same time, the topic will still open to public (XT community) through the thread.

Another example that public groups could also work is the Massimo Moratti XT fan club. We already have a group of distinctive members at the club, who still interact very well with other Milan, and XT community members.

I think what you're saying is that you want to form a group so you block out other members from it, which is quite contrary to the spirit of XT..

Block out Public from posting while encouranging the public to 'view' is promoting Voyuerism.

I am not blocking any one. The general thread will still be open to public. But if you don't want to chip in for the tickets, you'll be excluded from the payment arrangements, distribution, etc discussion anyway. My rational is that instead of doing it via mailing list, where it might take a while until new subscribers are added; or that an existing member replying to an old email that does not contain the new members; why don't we do it here at XT via public groups?

Setting up such a group and managing it also takes a while, so in that regard it doesn't change anything. For private correspondence on the board there is already the PM function.

What if one replied to an old PM? It happens all the time!

Can we atleast try it for the ticketing thing? One of the CMs could be in the group as an observer, and if he/she come to conclusion that is does contradict CT community's values, then we can stop it.
