The new stadion - Stožice project

As those of you who come here more often may remember, we've had numerous debates about how we are missing a decent stadion in Slovenija where our NT would play their games. It's been quite a whille since we've last posted on this matter and many things changed since than. A stadion in Celje was build, in Maribor we have a very lovely new Ljudski vrt, and now a building of a new sports centre in Ljubljana in coming to an end.

Stožice sports centre will include a 16000 capacity stadium and a 12000 capacity arena along with other supporting objects.

Here are a few pictures:

lol, Boki brate, don't you see the edit Walter made, 20 minutes after I asked my question?

But why 16000? I think Slovenia can fill up 20k in big home games no? And when will it be ready for use. I'm coming over to Slovenia for our qualifier next year, so maybe..?

Ooops, my apologies, didn't see that honestly.

For big games yes, but for all the others and if results go downhill, which they surely will at some point, there's no way to fill even 16K stadium. They could build 20K one, but I guess this one is OK too. It's still 33% bigger than any other stadium in Slovenia at the moment.

It should be ready this year, so you could well see the game against Serbia on it.

Cheers Wolfman!

And I understand Boki, but then again, Marakana wasn't filled for a long time either, but when we do, it's always a special feeling and you'd hate to be the one who wasn't able to get a ticket for that crucial Serbia match next year.

And thanks for the answers, hopefully I'll see it live.

slovenia will play against serbia in maribor :smileani: . northern ireland and serbia in maribor, other three games in Euro quali (faroer islands, estonia and italy) should be in Ljubljana.

i guess they`ve decided to play in maribor against serbia, cause they are expecting much less serbs here. i kinda agree on that point, but serbia will have strong support here as well, no doubt.

The opening game on the new stadium is schedulled for sometime in mid august, august 17th, I think. We'll play against Australia than.

I was quite pissed off when I found that out, becouse Jankovič and NZS were promissing a much more eminent opponent, but there you go.

Well, I think it´s kind of difficult to get an eminent opponent to play against you on 17th August, as everyone of the better world cup participant countries will just get back to their respective clubs from vacations then. We could probably get Russia, but I don´t think they wanna play a friendly against us anytime soon.

That's all true, but still I belive they could do a better job and find us a slightly more interesting opponent. I have nothing against the Ozzies, but they just don't klick for me. I'd prefer an European team. There are plenty of those who didn't make it to the world cup.

I'll go to the game of course. If I won't have to work that day that is.

Who would you pick, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Poland, ? I surely forgot someone important, but still...

I agree the Ozzies are not the best choice, but still...

Well, the football field and the basketball arena are complete and Olimpija plays their home matches in both. What I think is not complete yet is some surrounding buildings, which I believe should be built according to the initial plans.

Like OAnimal said, it's not entirely finished yet. However, now that's the two facilities are functional, I must say I don't like them too much. I expected more from this.
