WC 2010 Slovenia - Algeria

So, this is first game, our moment of truth.
On paper they are our easiest opponents, but we know very well that in the World Cup there are no easy opponents, specially not those, who arrived in the semifinals of the last African Cup of Nations.

What to expect? Of course, win would be great, but we can very well draw or lose. With the loss, I guess our chances of progressing out of the group are as good as Jenna Jameson's chances to earn a PhD at Harvard university. Draw isn't much better and in this case we should definitely beat USA in our next game, which will be far from easy again.

Anyway, I wish that the guys play their hearts out and I'll be happy with them regardless of the results. But if they manage to progress, I guess they will earn the eternal fame among our fans and rightfully so.

This is the perfect game to kick off our WC! Don't get me wrong, it won't be easy, but it's much better than to start against England or the yanks. We sure have the capability to win this, but like you said OAnimal, our team will have to play at their maximum, like always in the last period. Any sort of underestimating the Algerians will hurt us. The Bojs must go into this fighting, playing with all their hearts! Only this way they can hope for a good result - and we all know what I mean with that. If they'll play like we know they can and are capable off, than I'll be satisfied no matter what happens. Sure, a win would be great, but lets face it just being here is treat allready. Why not going one step higher though? A first win in the World cup for a start anyone?

What's the likely line-up?

I'm guessing...

Handanovic

Brecko
Jokic
Cesar
Suler

Birsa
Kirm
Koren
Radosavljevic

Dedic
Novakovic

Will be a tough game, Algeria are no pushovers especially if they keep their head.

Yes, that's the starting line up, unless something comes up. Kek did try with Ljubijankič in the last friendly instead of Dedič, so maybe that's a change we can expect, other than that this is it!

Of course Algeria are no pushovers, I couldn't even dream about saying that. Out of the three games in the group though, this one is the most likely where we'll get the points.

Dedič will start against Algeria, no doubt. Kek started Ljubijankič against New Zealand because he wanted to spare Dedič some effort.

We have to take our chances when they come and stand strong in the midfield. As Walter said, as long as the boys give their maximum on the pitch and keep their heads cool, we have a big chance to get something out of this game. I personally like African teams, but we all know that they have a tendency to loose their tactical play in every game.

We can do it, cmon' boys :fero:

I'm not so sure about this one. After the NZ game Kek said that Ljubijankič showed more in those 12 minutes on the pitch than some others. Did he mean that generaly or did he have in mind someone in particular - like Dedič - I don't know. You know I like Zlatko, becouse he's what I expect form a player, someone who always gives his everything in every game. He's my naturaly choice. I was just saying that concidering that Kek started Ljubijankič against NZ and his comments after the game, chances are he might change something in that area.

good win for Slovenia, yes their first points in a WC....though they will have to play better against the US. Though the US will have to play more open of course, but Slovenia need to pass better (not sure if it was the players or the ball/conditions, but the passing from Slovenia was very poor)

Ugly performance but the three points is most important I guess

The performance was below any standards, that's true. From both teams. But we've got what we wanted! Three points and that's all that matters really. Top of the group baby!

In reality, I belive the pressure got the better of bot teams. We both knew that in order to stand any realistic chance to progress out of the group, we need to win this game. Minds were troubled and legs were heavy becouse of that. Football was poos. That's all true. What's also true is, that we kept our calm kept going right untill the end. I like this about our team, they always play with a purpose, never forget what's at stake. Yes maybe at times we panicked a bit, but we sorted ourselve out every time. It's a great asset to have that. I'm very proud of the bojs. I mean it's our first ever WC victory! How could I even dare to be picky about the way they earned this!

Of course our team are the first to realise that what they showed yesterday won't be enough against the yanks or England, and Kek was the first to aknowladge that right after the game. The players know that perfectly well too. We all know it, and you know what, they'll be a lot better in those two games. They've got nothing to lose. The pressure is off them now. The game against Algeria was the most difficult one to play. The remaining two will be ''easy'' in terms of psychological approach. Our bojs will be the underdogs, and will just go out fighting and try to upset.

Great stuff from our team really! Hats off to Kek and his team! Marvelous!

I can't believe WBA released Koren, always a neat little player.

Another congrats to you, even though I already said this in the other thread.

Thanks again, I can see why they released Koren, he wasn't all that good yesterday. If it wasn't for the goal, I'd say he was actually quite poor.

Constructive critics from fans of teams, who play absolutely brilliant football in the qualifiers, with great goalkeeping, rock solid defense, creative midfield and lethal attack and finish on unbelievable 5th place in their qualifying group with magnificent 11 points from 10 games, 6 of those coming against mighty San Marino, is always welcomed.

He wasn't only one. He had plenty of friends including on the other team.
