Olympics and our sportsmen

The Olympica are well on the way and we have allready seen some of our athelets perform and untill now it's been more or less dissapointing to say the least.

Our mens biathlon team sucked big time, in the 20km individual race 40th place was their best result! :frustrat:

There were some acrobatic skiers I belive who made no spectacular appearances as well.

And of course the biggest dissaster so far our ski jumpers from whom we expected the most. Yesterday, in the small hill, only Peterka made it into the finall and there he took the honourable 30th place. :eekani: :frustrat: :irritate: And we have a bronze medal to defend from the small hill team event! Disgracefull!

Up till now, only our luge driver Domen Pocechia deserves to be mentioned for his first Olympics appearance where he made a solid performancce finishing 26th I belive. I a sport where I think he's the first Slovenian ever to compete.

And also Petra Majdič deserves a full credit for her performance in the 2x7,5 km persuit in the cross country. She even lead after the first 7,5 km and in the end she finished in the respectable 11th place. But she went for it, she had the balls and deserves the praise. Plus her strongest races are yet to come.

So, I belive we coulduse this thread to disscuss a bit about our olympians and their struggle. About the othersaswell of course.

Wow, what a response. :eekani:

Anyway, our athelets are still not justyfying their presence at the Olympics as they still haven't made a decent result. The skiers were plain awfull, both men and women, I don't even want to mention our figure saker Urbas, the ski jumpers still suck at trainings for the big hill event...

Today Petra Majdič will be in action in one of her stronger disciplines, 10km classic, if we are to expect a good result anywhere than she's the one to do it. So good luck Petra!

And that there's still the lovely Tina. Hopefully she's stay calm and give us something to cheer about.

I agree, the hockey tournament is the most exciting thing at the winter Olympics. There are other things too, but nothing beats a good fight between Canada and Russia. And they are both doing extremely well so far, I really hope to see this final (don't know if it's possible though).

Anyway, yesterday two good results for us:

First it was Petra Majdič, who missed out on medal, but still produced a fine run in the 10 km cross country classic, where she finished 6th. It's our best ever olympic acheevement in cross country, and it's a really good result.

Than it was Teja Gregorin in biathlon, our olympic debutant who finished 14th in the 10km race also I belive.

So finally some decent results forour Olympic team. Nothing spectacular to expect today though.

They were fantastic! 10th place in the team event is equal to our worst ever position. Man what a disgrace! Only a year ago I wouldn't imagine myself saying this but: Zupan has to go!

All others were shit too! :frustrat:

I apologize for saying this, but for the sake of Slovenia's non-winter sports, I am glad Tina Maze again failed spectacularly. Maybe now the media and sponsors will not get wet only when skiing is in question...

She was disgustingly bad! :frustrat:

On the other hand though, Petra Majdič is the best one of our wholle expedition. Today she finished 14th after a great start, she had a accident though when one of the workersfrom the track came across her and she fell over him and thus lost a chance for an even better place. :frustrat:

The more I think about it the more I belive it was a mistake to open this thread. :irritate:

I'd say that Majdic is the only one that actually deserves credit for her performances at all. OK, and Ana Drev for today's race, she did quite well.

Defenetly, she's been our best athelet! Maybe not the only one that deserved to be there though. Surely some others deserve to be given the credit fora decent performance too.

Forinstance the snowborders, Košir and that other guy who finished 6th and 7th were quite OK.

Our biathlete Teja Gregorin was really good, finishing 14th in the 15km race and was our best link in yesterdays rellay.

OK Ana Drev was very good today but that's more down to a surprise but still.

Defenetly Tina Maze deserved to be there but she failled big time. Maybe it's down to all the pressure that was upon her as our only realistic hope for the medal. Maybe it's just her and here nerves. The fact is though she screwed it and now she has to face it. Too bad. :depress:

OK, I didn't follow that sport, so I didn't know about them, but yeah, you are right.

OK, a medal isn't all that counts. If all the athelets came somewhere close to what Majdič did it would be great and I'd say, it was pretty damn good, a medal would be just a topping on the cake. This way it was a dissaster bar a few exceptions.
