Slovenia's football fairytale

In autumn 1998 a team of no-hopers started something beautiful... A nation of less then 2 million, a non-footballing nation untill that point, started their Euro 2000 qualifiers.
By the time of the epic battle against Ukraine in the play-offs the whole nation was football-crazy...

Slovenia had qualified for the Euro 2000 and World cup 2002 consecutively... this may look diminutive when compared to other achievements of footballing gigants like Brazil, etc. But the thing is... Slovenia is not a great footy nation, and never was(not even when a part of Yugoslavia)... we were living in disbelief during the whole era... that is why we called that era "Slovenia's football fairytale"...

Here are some of those moments(I am just sharing this videos, I am not the author, although comments are still welcome, of course)...

In 1989, he married Matilde, whom he had known since childhood. They have two children: Matilde and José Jr.

The joy, the tears, the magic, The Slovenia Team.

Those were great times, we showed that a little nation can produce magic with their feet. Some big teams had to get their hats off infront of our team.

Knavs, Ačimović(he is out for the rest of the season), Nastja Čeh and Cimerotič... that is about it methinks...

From the Euro2000 squad there is only Ačimovič and Knavs, if I am not mistaken...

Weren't you 6th seeds or something for the qualifiers for 2000? And, who can forget that gamne v Yugoslavia where you destroyed them at 3-0, but themn they put in that amazing fightback to get to 3-3. If you had won that game, you would behave been in the quarters, but most likely lost to Holland.
