Only in Slovenia

12th round of our main football division was (according to official statistics) seen by "amazing" 3850 people (this is sum of attendance in all five 12th round games), including the "huge" 800 spectators in a derby between 1st and 2nd placed teams on the standings... I think this needs no further comment.

Well, at least you have the big derby which probably draws more attendance than all our league games put together...

Yes, but that is the only thing which inflates the average making it unrealistic. Not for long it seems...

Oanimal i think, thats because of the clubs and citys in wich this club re playing....

Imagine our 1st league with this ten clubs:
Maribor, Olimpija, Mura, Koper, Izola, Jesenice, Triglav Kranj, Novo Mesto, Beltinci, Publikum.

I think we would have an average cca. 3.000 ppl....

nooooo no no no

21.000 of 6 matches, 3.000 was the smallest crowd and it has been up. Kamen Ingrad is the only tea, that can't draw fans but I think we have the best attendance in the region

Yes, I agree. Since Olimpija, Mura and Ljubljana were relegated because of unsolved financial issues, our league hit the all time bottom. Specially Mura has drawn pretty decent crowd.

I am not sure about 3000, but with that kind of league I am sure the average attendance would be increased significantly. However, the problem seems to be that in places, where people like football, the management of those teams sucks, and where teams have decent management, people don't care much about football. That's why the thread is titled "Only in Slovenia"...

I was just about replying to Lista's post, when I saw yours and from my memory when I occasionally read Sportske Novosti I must say that I was sure Croatia has quite decent attendance (well, at least when it's compared to the Slovenian one)...

Yeah, both you and HS are right. Our league does attract more people, but it can still be waay better!

thats true, I like what Rijeka are doing by giving out free tickets to children and people who usually can't afford it but other clubs needs to do this too, get more involved in their city.

Again, Kamen Ingrad is the only disappointing one, sometimes getting less than a 1.000. Also in Croatia soccer is the #1 sport (don't think too many care about the GY league) while in Slovenia I don't think its #1

Hajduk did so a long time ago, even when I was in elementary school. But it won't do any good in terms of attedance I reckon. You'll have a couple of hundreds of kids more, and that's it.

for example in American sports, every team no matter how bad or good they are have promotions, free tickets give aways and times when players do charity events of visit schools/hospitals in the area.

Promotions like 1) the first 10.000 fans get a free hat or a free jersey or something like that but I guess Europeans don't want to copy "stupid" Americans

It's just our mentality; if it's free, it's no good.
I know, 'cause at times, I think like that too. But we don't wanna turn this into another debate on how to bring people back to stadiums; as long as the likes of Stimac are there, it's not going to happen. And that's it.

do you guys get discounts if you bring 10+ people? For example for the Mets, if you bring a group of people I think its 20% off, that also helps. Also every Wednesday if you bring an empty Pepsi bottle you get free bleacher tickets and thats very popular.
For me its opposite, if its free, I'm there!

Nah, we don't have discounts of any kind. I guess they think that the an individual who wants to see the game (and there's not many of them) want's that 'badly' enough to pay for the ticket, otherwise he would stay at home like everyone else!

First and foremost it's about the quality of football, then the fan following...the old Yugo league had, what, close to 10,000 avg attendance in the 80s?

The first prerequisite for people to get people to come watch football is...good football. Sure countries in our region can't be like the Serie A, but a lot can be done to improve the standard...and then you can make up for the quality you can't attain by playing attacking football, people will come to see a lot of goals, that's always exciting. Also it has to be "clean", I think you know what I mean (and I'm not talking about the # of fouls on the pitch).

Second, you have to have teams from places where enough people live to fill up a stadium, teams with established fan bases, not some team that played in seoska liga until 10 years ago and can fit only 500 people in their ground.

All other promotions, measures, free passes, bla bla bla come after...
