Knavs to Salzburg

Kapetan slovenske nogometne reprezentance Aleksander Knavs je zapustil Nemčijo. Naslednje tri sezone bo nosil dres Red Bull Salzburga.

-----------------------------------------------

Our NT captain signed a three year deal with an Austrian first leage club Reb Bull Salzburg. He refused to play for Bochum becouse the club was eliminated from first Bundesliga so he signed for the Austrians who are coached by Kurt Jara with whom Sandi allready worked in Tirol and Kaiserslautern. His new club has big apetites as the new sponsor invested a lot of money and Knavs is allready their sixth new player.

I whish Sandi all the best in his new club and a good career, but I think this is a step back for him. m sure he could find himself a better club. :undecide:

This is so often the case with our football players that it doesn't even surprise me anymore. I am actually surprised he didn't go to Cyprus or Qatar or something. :rollani:

On the other hand, if Salzburg are a team with some ambition to get to CL or something, then this move of his doesn't seem so bad anymore...

I guess we'll have to wait and see, but come on Austrian league, it would be better to stay with Bochum in the second Bundesliga than. :rollani:

I disagree. Salzburg is a team with good tradition, they played UEFA Cup final if I am not mistaken and some seasons in CL. If their ambitions are to lift the club to these levels again then this is far better than 2nd Bundesliga, IMHO.

This is all OK, but I wasn't thinking of those few appearances a year in the european cups, I was thinking more of the poor domestic competition. Second Bundesliga is stronger and more competitive league than Austrian first league.

Names don't tell all the story. Besides, the first three teams from 2nd Bundesliga won't be there next season, which makes it with much less "famous" names...

No? 1860 Munchen, Unterhaching, Karlsruher, Cottbus? I'd take those anytime over any Austrian club.

Unterhaching, Cottbus? Please don't make me laugh. They are famous for what? For playing 1 season in 1. Bundesliga?

On the other hand, I already mentioned Salzburg results from the past, but this year Austria Wien arrived into the quarter-finals of UEFA Cup, losing to Parma only on away goal rule. Along the way, they have beaten Zaragoza, Athletic Bilbao, Utrecht and Legia Warszaw. No German club has made it into the round of 16 of UEFA Cup this year.

Then you also have Rapid Wien, Tirol, Sturm Graz, Bregenz, all very solid teams.

I didn't say they are famous, but they are all pretty solid teams. Austrian football sucks, and thats final, so please stop arguing with me.

Seriously, I'm aware of the results, and years ago Casino Salzburg was a good side in Europe as well.

I think that a player of Sandi's calibre should aim for much more than to play a couple of european matches per season on a high level and the rest of the season to play an avarage league.

It's just that I'm a bit dissapointd by all of that as I really thought Knavs would make a better career, playing for better clubs than he actually did. He's now 29, so concidering the new three year deal with Salzburg he should be at the end of his career once it runs out.

I remember a few years back when even Leeds was in contention, but somehow that all fell out of the window than.

Oh well, as long as he'll still be the same captain Knavs as far as the NT is concidered, I really don't care that much where does he play. :smileani:

Well, I would prefer to see Knavs go to Panathinaikos too for example, but I still wouldn't dismiss Austrian football just like that. I think that their league is of comparable if not better quality than German 2. Bundesliga, plus while playing in Austria he may get a chance to play CL or UEFA cup. I think that's still better than staying in Bochum.

Oki I understand.... otherwise macedonia have at least 7-8 players who are better individuals then Slovenia NT (when Santrac let them play but he bojkot some internationals or they him?) so your strength is the fighting spirit.....

I see you have a lot of players from the slovenian liga in the team, Cimirotic pay in slovania today :rollani: what happen to the man?

Slovenia squad
Handanovic (Udinese Calcio), Nemec (NK Domžale), Cesar (NK Dinamo Zagreb), Cipot (Al Arabi), Ilic (NK Domžale), Mavric (Molde FK), Ceh (Club Brugge KV), Filekovic (Ergotelis FC), Gobec (NK Publikum), Komac (NK Gorica), Pokorn (Hapoel Nazareth FC), Seslar (NK Publikum), Sukalo (SpVgg Unterhaching 1925), Zlogar (Enosis Neon Paralimni FC), Cimirotic (NK Publikum), Lavric (1. FC Dynamo Dresden), Rodic (Portsmouth FC), Siljak (R. Excelsior Mouscron).

I don't know about that, since I have no idea about your team.

Yes, fighting spirit and good relations between players were always present in our NT, except in WC02.

Well, after his injury in Lecce, he came to play in Olimpija, but as Olimpija was in deep financial crisis, he went to Publikum Celje. However, chances are that he will go abroad again this year.
