Liga Simobil Vodafone 2004-'05

The Slovenian football association (NZS) and the association of first division clubs have settled on a 12-team top flight for the 2004/05 season.

There had been talk of reducing the league to ten teams, and that seemed likely to happen when NK Smartno, who finished ninth last season, and second division champions NK Rudar Velenje elected to withdraw for financial reasons.

But the decision has now been taken to replace Rudar and Smartno with NK Zagorje, who were a first division side in the early years of the Slovenian league, and newcomers NK Bela Krajina from Crnomelj.

The NZS have also announced that the league format will remain unchanged; so after two-thirds of the season the top flight will be divided into two leagues of six teams. The season kicks off on 1 August with defending champions NK Gorica starting away to NK Koper.

Match Day 1 (1st August)

Cmc Publikum - Kumho Drava
Koper - Gorica
Ljubljiana - Zagorje
Domzale - KD Olimpija
Primorje - Bela Krajina
Maribor P.L. - Mura

Why don't play a SuperCup in Slovenia (winners of championship vs winners of national cup)?

Our FA is full of idiots. It's clear that our country can't support even 10 serious football teams, but they still insists on the league of 12, bringing in Zagorje and Bela Krajina who didn't qualify for the 1st division on the pitch at all.

Exactly man, would it be a sin if our league consisted of only 10 or maybe even only 8 teams? I mean in that case we would atleast be sure no team would have to be relegated in the mid season due to the incompetence of paying their bills and so on. They are so blindly chained to the idea of a 12 team league that they are willing to brig in teams for which we can in advance expect not to finish the league due to their financial status.
Morons! Instead of having a smaller league but made of teams really capable of not only perticipating but hoping for the really success.

The league starts tomorrow with the Publikum - Drava match. We'll see what will the new season bring. Some mixed feelings there as quite some controversy was there before the start of it. Despite the outing of two teams Šmartno who finished 9th last year and Rudar who were top of division two and should both play in the league, the league leaders decided to invite two teams instead. Bela Krajina, who fifished second in division two and Zagorje third placed team from division two. A lot of words were spend on wether the league shoul consist of only ten teams instead of twelve but in the end the latter proposal prevailed. I say it's a bad thing, we should really only have a ten team league for the quality sake and all. But we now have what we have. Lets hope for an exciting season, good football and may the best team win!

2.500; Zilić 71.
RK: Čeh 23./Drava

Postopned:
DOMŽALE - KD OLIMPIJA

Certainly a big surprise to see Publikum lose, it better be a wake up call for them after a good preparation period. Otherwise nothing spectaculat, maybe Mura geting a point in Maribor is worth mentioning. Domžale-Olimpija has been postponed due to the medical problems of Olipmpija's team.
