Congratulations On Dan Državnosti!

Tomorrow we are cellebrating the 13th anniversary of our inndependance! It was on the 25th of June 1991 when we broke free from Jugoslavija and became inndependant country!
I remember it as yesterday, the crazy party that happened latter that night and than the next day there was war. Short but so damn unnecessary, but we came on top of it!

So again Happy birthday SLOVENIJA, and congratulations to all of us!

Sure, there are obviously always some for who it means. But for the majority (say 75 %) it's just a day off work.p Maybe some more in Slovenia though, since it is such a young nation. Dunno about that.

I wouldn't call it whining, it's just that not everyone experiences it as intensely. On occasions though (often sports related) imho you'll get a more spontaneous - not to mention sincere - feeling of national pride rather than on a set date.

I get what you are thinking, but in this case this isn't just any date. That is when our very own, independent country was declared, on that day we got ourselves what we dreamt of for houndred of years. And that's the problem, people don't even know what the day is all about leave alone the national pride about it. And if this isn't the sort of festive day to take with passion, well than I don't know what is. Plus we are talking about the events that only happened a little more than a decade ago.

Well, I understand your point of view and it's good to see so much national pride. However, I admit that I am not exactly like that. To me, it's just a day off, and I am more interested in what will happen tomorrow than what happened 13 years ago. That's history, let's move on.

I respect that, but in the other hand can't understand it. I mean aren't you proud of what went on back than, just a little bit.
Man you see, that is why we never were the masters of our own soil and that is why all the scums are coming in and do all the šit they do, demand džamijas and all sorts of crap ...

Ah fak sorry, I got carried away.

Man, my primary interest is my own and my family's good. Other than that, I am a citizen of the world, if you know what I mean. I would not have problems to live abroad. The only ties that I have to this country are my family and my friends (and our football NT, of course ). For me, the world is becoming smaller and smaller every day and getting bound by any sort of national pride because of what happened several years ago is not really my thing.

BTW, why are you bringing up that dzamija thing again? There is dzamija in Rome, in Paris, in Moscow, if you don't know yet and I don't see why people shouldn't build one in Ljubljana too, specially since they would build it with their own money. If Ljubljana council forbids building it, it means that you can buy some land with your own money where you would like to build your house (again paid with your own money) and then some moron from city councill comes and tells you that you are not allowed to build it.

BTW, what kind of scums that do sh!t here, besides dzamija, are you talking about?

OK we are not in the same wave lenght but I understand you. For me this 'citizen of the world' is an absolute šit. But it's usless o agrue about it really as clearly we'd never agree on it. My point is just that a nation without national pride is no good.

About džamija I won't even disscuss, it shouldn't be built in Ljubljana or anywhere else and that's it!

And, you are asking me about scum? Atleast you should know that one.

Why is 'citizen of the world' absolute sh!t? I have been around the world quite a lot and never felt uncomfortable. Place where I was born is something I have no influence on. I am not saying that I am ashamed of being Slovenian, not at all, but I see no reason why are we so special that I should be so proud of being Slovenian. The same goes for events 13 years ago. I had no influence on that. But again, it's perfectly OK, if you feel like you feel, maybe it's just me.

Oh yes, why don't we demolish that orthodox church in Ljubljana as well, because it doesn't fit in our sacred land? :rollani:

That's all great and fine. I've been abroad too, maybe not as much as you but I was, almost never felt uncomfortable either. That's not the case, it's great. And I'm not saying we, the Slovenes are something special, nor that we should feel like that. All I'm saying is that we are what we are and we should be proud of that.
And about the events that went on 13 years ago. One question: if you were old enough that time and if the situation was 'right', would you go and fight for your country?

That's perfectly OK and I have no problem accepting that.

Actually, I wouldn't, because I was not in the army but in civil service, so I am not supposed to use weapons. And to answer your future question: no, I would not die for my country (and even less for any other, mind you), no way.

You see, one bad thing about national pride is, that it can easily blur the edge when it turns into nationalism and dismisal of everything that is not ours or that does not "belong" to our land.

That's bad, I agree, but you have criminal and "capci" in almost every other land.

I could sense this one coming. Not in any case, not even if some faked up 'enemies' would come to your hometown, threatening your family and everyone that you love?

Well call me whatever you like, but yes I do belive that whatever isn't our shouldn't be there. I have nothing against lets say džamija as long as it is where it should be - not in my front yard.
