Upcoming Friendlies

Well, as OAnimal informed me we are playing Poland in February. I think it was announced yesterday that we will also be facing Switzerland in April. Here is the article for the match against Swiss.

Good to see we are organising matches. I would still like to see atleast maybe three or four more. We are going to need all the preperation we can get before the next qualifiers.

So there will be no friendly tournament we usualy play in february? What we have now two matches allready fixed and two in prospect. I also think we should play more as friendly matches will be very much needed if we want to really prepare for the qualifiers.

I agree Walter. We need every match we can get. I would be satisfied if we played 6-7 from now till next September.

Najprej je bilo govora o programu A reprezentance v letu 2004. Le-ta bo letos odigrala 8 tekem, 4 kvalifikacijske in 4 prijateljske.

So this are the matches:

18. february : Slovenija - Poland / Saint Fernando-Spain
31. march : not yet determined, Latvia or Iceland or USA / home
28. april : Slovenija - Switzerland / away
18. august : Slovenija - Finland / away

Besides those four friendlies we will also play four WC 2006 qualification matches, which are those gonna be is also not yet determined. It's very possible that Italy will be one team we'll play this autumn. Anyway on january 16th NZS will meet all the other FA's to make a schedulle for the qualifiers.

Latvia would be mey first choice as well, then USA and then Iceland as they are the poorest team out of this three when it comes to football and we really have to get things rolling and with teams like this you can't really do that.

If we would play with USA would they come here, no?

I wouldn't mind either, Latvia or USA. Latvia are much like us a few years back and I whish them good in Euro. I'd like to plad them. Whille on the other hand I'd also like to play USA as they are a team that progressed much, and it would be so nice to kick their soccer asses!

Kriva je agencija
Mnogi se verjetno sprašujete, zakaj bo slovenskega nogometna reprezentanca prijateljsko tekmo s Poljsko igrala v Španiji; pojasnjuje sekretar NZS Dane Jošt.

ENG:
The reason why will be the friendly against Poland played in Spain is that Sport five agency, who owns the TV rights, suggested it and will have an easier task to market it and thus cover the costs.

I think it's a good idea that we are not playing them at home, because we are weaker when it comes playing away so every game helps ... as to where it's played I don't really care as it's not important; Spain, Poland, no big difference to me.

Didn't want to open a new thread just for this, but it also can't go by without mentioning so I'll just put here.
Here is the new FIFA's ranking, we are 31st.

01. (01.) Brazilija 848 točk
02. (02.) Francija 826
03. (03.) Španija 798
04. (04.) Nizozemska 752
05. (05.) Argentina 744
06. (06.) Češka 742
07. (07.) Mehika 740
08. (08.) Turčija 738
08. (08.) Anglija 738
10. (10.) Italija 733
11. (11.) ZDA 732
12. (12.) Nemčija 729
13. (13.) Danska 714
14. (13.) Irska 712
14. (14.) Kamerun 712
...
25. (25.) Poljska 656
31. (31.) Slovenija 637
42. (42.) Norveška 604
44. (44.) Švica 592
51. (54.) Škotska 552
90. (90.) Belorusija 476

I know it doesn't say a lot, but except for Italy all other opponents from our WC 2006 qualifying group are behind us. How nice would it be if the final standings in the group were atleast like that!

Don't underestimate Iceland, Nina. USA are perhaps a different matter but I certainly rate them higher than a counter oriented team like Latvia.

But Latvia has developed immensly! I don't really know what kind of football they play but I'll say that they are closer to the Scandinavian style of play than for example US and since that style doesn't suit us at all it's better to practise it, no?

How do you mean? That the Slovenian NT has a hard time dismantling a well organised opponent?

Couldn't really tell Bins, but the fact is that we always fail to produce when we play against scandinavian opponent. That was the case against the Danes as well as against the Norwegians, and we have played quite some matches against the two by now. And we only have one goalless draw against the Norwegians from Euro 2000, and a catastrophical goal difference os something like 15 - 2 against us. I don't know I guess it's something about them that doesn't suit us although I don't find any of the scandinavian teams being something out of this world.
However it is time to end all this bad spell, and I think it's a great chance we do it in the upcoming qualifiers!
