April 30. Malta : Slovenija

I know it's a bit early yet, but than again it's never too early for a good debate. Again an important game for us, and again a must win situation. After such a splendid victory over Cyprus we must realize that Malta also won't be an easy task! OK, with the right approach and everything we should have little problems, but you never know, so we should be at our best. I hope that our players won't be up in the clouds in the dreamworld, but on solid ground. That's what we need, a team that takes every game like the Cyprus game! I must say I have very little doubt that we couldn't win this one, but you must keep a certain amount of respect torwards your opponent. We simply need the three points before those massively important games with Israel come.
I am optimistic, again!

We mustn't underestimate Malta in any case, that's the key thing for players to understand. We don't want the Faroe Islands story to repeat again. Malta is not such a bad team, we didn't exactly outplay them in Ljubljana, they helped us with scoring an autogol. If our players have the same attitude like against Cyprus, I think we'll take the 3 points without major problems. And taking 3 points is the only thing that counts for us.

Yes, I don't want to hear anything but taking the 3 points out of Malta. If we can't do this, I doubt we deserve a spot in Euro 2004.

It all dependes how our defence is going to look like! If Bulajič will make same stupid mistakes we could even lose these game! But as always i am looking very positive about it so i predict 3:1 for Slovenia!

Obviously, you'll need a decent defence then, but in these games Slovenia could probably better start from it's strengths and those lie in the offence. So I hope Siljak and Cimirotic will be fit then.

Any news on Knavs btw? Could he perhaps strengthen your defence?

No no, Sandi Knavs is out for the rest of the season. It was said that he will be out of action for atleast three months. This represents a big problem for us, not that much for the Malta game, but for latter games, the cruical ones against Israel!

Hi!

it seems to me that you are going in oblivion....

Malta won't be a threat to anyone with our offence. A training match at the most... But our D must become perfect. I am so far more interested in our match against Hungary, where we WILL get attacked! Knavs, Cipot, Kapič, Sulejmanovič, Cesar, (what the hell happened to Sankovič????) seems to be the main issue of the slovenian football fairytale...

I don't think defence will play a major role in that match. It will be all about if we are able to score a goal or two to kill of their expectations. Even with a bad defence like we have today, we should not worry against Malta. Against Israel it is a different story, though.

What about the lineup. Will it be the same as at the last game?

Should we give another chance to Cesar? What about Šukalo, who will replace him?

Cesar certainly deserves more chances, as he surely is one of our future defenders! As for Šuki, I belive he will be ready for the match against Malta!

I don't think so. Cesar is a bench warmer in Dinamo and Bulajič is a starter for Mainz in the 2. Bundesliga. He plays very good there, doesn't make any stupid mistakes, he's a whole different Bulajič compared to the one we saw against Cyprus. Maybe he had a really bad day then, i don't know. I just wouldn't replace him just like that if the alternative is only Cesar.

Knavs also played lousy against Switzerland. So would you exclude him from the team after such a bad performance? He got injured in the mean time but anyway. We can't just go on replacing the defenders because we don't have adequate substitutions. Puting Cesar in would be very risky in my opinion, Bulajič should get another chance.

I agree with Majk, Bane plays really great at Mainz, and is rock solid in defence, that's why I also can't understand how could he play so badly against Cyprus. I think very highly of Bulajič as a defender and as a player as a whole, he defenetly should be a starter for the NT!
Cesar is an option in case of any further injuries, and certainly for the future. Why doesn't he play at Dinamo I think only Čiro knows.
