Game of the Year - Hungary v Portugal

Without question this is the game of 2017, once more the 'boys are back against the wall and will need at least 3 goals to keep it competitive against the Euro champeeens and the greatest European player this century.

C. Ronaldo just eclipsed Sandor Kocsis' 75 goals to just be behind Puskas all-time for second place in Europe. Puskas is still numerous uno in Europe.

It is here, the greatest, the all-time European lineup of the ages:

Puskas and C. Ronaldo were undoubtedly the greatest forwards in European history, now we have the pleasure of playing the latter on Sunday

We can beat this megastar and his team with a unsurpassed brazenly tough, physical and skillful game animated by heart and a charged fanbase.

I say these are the games waiting for, big upset type games, games to savor as a unique challenge to climb the mountains in the game.

Expert prediction:

Magyarorszag 3 Portugal 2

Good preview!

0-0

Hajrá! Hajrá! I'll be there in sector B2 or something if I make it back to Bp in time.

Without Jesus, a hopeless end. With him, an endless hope.

I have a positive good feeling about the game and it concerns the people upfront who can score. Szalai was injured, dadgummit! But here comes Bode off the bench and within the minute, we score. After Bode's insertion there was very positive traffic around the Latvian goal for 10 minutes, we were cutting up their rearguard with fine fettle. Thus perhaps the positive influence of Bode.

I say Bode is vastly underrated, he is a more completer forward than Szalai who is really a target striker whose strength is an aerial game and physicality not speed nor finesse.

Bode gets his first true marquee debut on Sunday and doubtless he'll give it everything to impress. These are the master games truly good and great players have to step it up on. Bode is fast and has a booming crackling leg

The smart retort: We can tie anybody and beat anybody and that is the reality in football.

That is precisely why the game was set up, to play the game, and sometimes big heavy favorites lose, otherwise the sport would be absolutely corrupt which I can tell you it is not.

If you believe that it is somehow Destiny to always have big heavy favorites win in football, I've got major news for you since you don't know the structure or philosophy of sport.

Versus Portugal anything can happen, here are some Scenarios: a defensive lapse leading to a Magyar goal, Portugal team fatigue leading to a Magyar goal, a lucky and hard running adhesive Magyar defense holding Portugal scoreless, a penalty kick leading to a Magyar goal, two sweet drives leading to two Magyar goals, an interception leading to a Magyar goal, etc etc and these are just some.

I remember when Pista said he'd respek Ronaldo if he scored a goal like the famous Hugo Sanchez scissor kick goal at Real Madrid.

Promise is a promise :-)

I would call it the 'Game of the Year' for 2 reasons: Portugal is the talented 800 pound gorilla with two of the best players in Europe coming to town and the 'boys are against the ropes, we've got no choice but to win. This truly is it, we lose tomorrow and its kaput for 2018.

Has the manager put out the starting lineup for tomorrow's game? I can't find it.

I've got a little grass left, and I'm smoking it all right before the game, foci sokal jobb igazi fuvel.

tbh, it has been kaputt for 2018 since the Faroes game already, then the unfortunate home game vs the Swiss, never mind the Andorra debacle

Hungary has a knack for playing down to opponents (Faroe, Andorra) but also at times playing up to an opponent (vs Portugal at the Euro). With enough motivation and inspiration, they can, of course, make something memorable happen. Unlikely but then again crazier things have happened in football.

The problem isn't that. I think the problem is the longer term...we can't expect a bunch of sub-par players to always play the best game of their lives in every game just to qualify. When good teams have a bad game, they still squeak out wins or at least points. That's because they have talent, skill and class. When Hungary has a bad game, they get beat by Andorra. That's the difference.

Hungary has to start producing better players more consistently. Top players in top leagues, not just promising youngsters that get lost in bush leagues after a couple of years.
