Stieber Zoltán - The Zoltán Has Landed

Zoltán Stieber

(born October 16, 1988 in Budapest, Hungary) is a professional footballer who currently plays for Yeovil Town - on loan from FA Premier League side Aston Villa - as either a winger or a deep-lying forward.

Stieber is widely seen to possess a lot of potential - from sources at both club and country level. He was hot property for Újpest, and had trials for Arsenal and Manchester United prior to signing for Aston Villa. He signed his first professional contract with the club on January 4 2007 and also plays for Hungary U19.

2005/06 Season

Stieber signed a two-year contract with Aston Villa in May 2005 and quickly impressed Tony McAndrew with his performances for the Academy. In total, he made 30 appearances for the Academy, scoring 4 goals in his debut season. He was part of the squad that got to the Play-offs Final of the FA Premier Academy League in May 2006, which Villa lost 3-2 against Southampton. He also made 6 substitute appearances for the Reserves in the 2005/06 season.

2006/07 Season

Stieber appeared 13 times for Aston Villa Reserves in the 2006/07 season, scoring 2 goals, against Fulham and Chelsea. He was also involved in producing a memorable hat-trick of assists, to help gain victory over Reading in a 3-0 win.

In late May 2007, Stieber guided Aston Villa to success in the 2007 HKFC Philips Lighting International Soccer Sevens, scoring a spectacular winner against City Academy Hong Kong to book a place in the knock-out stages. Stieber then went onto lead the Midlands club to victory against Urawa Red Diamonds, PSV and finally Central Coast Mariners FC to secure the trophy, in a competition which has brought notable success to Aston Villa in the past. Stieber's efforts in the competition were also rewarded with the Player of the Tournament trophy - succeeding last years winner - Gabriel Agbonlahor. After this success, Stieber was rewarded with a 3-year contract at Aston Villa - the longest given to any of the 7 contractee's - thus showing the promise and potential shown in the young Hungarian.

2007/08 Season

In July 2007, Stieber was given his first taste of first-team action, when he was called up to the senior squad for the tour of the U.S. and Canada. He made his debut against Toronto FC and heavily impressed against the Major League Soccer team, the Hungarian also appeared in a further pre-season match against Walsall, in which he assisted the first goal of the game.

Despite not making a competitive breakthrough to the senior team, 'Zoli' has so far made an extremely positive impression for Aston Villa Reserves this season, scoring against Fulham and Portsmouth and chalking up 6 assists in the opening 6 matches. This led the young midfielder to be awarded the first ever BBC Radio WM Young Player of the Month, on 20 September 2007.

On 22 November 2007, Stieber joined Coca Cola League One side Yeovil Town on loan until 1 January 2008. He has made an instant impact for the Glovers, notching 2 assists in his first 2 starts and even receiving a standing ovation for his performances at Huish Park.

That is just lovely. Let's hope this language problem will not prove to be decisive (at Sándor Károly academy, it seems that English is regarded as an essential part of the footballing education). Hope to here about him in the near future!

Bentex, are you so angry about Priskin's presentation of his so-called assist that you wanted to show the concurrence?

I'm not to sure what you mean about concurrence. However if people think that someone is good because they are at a premiership team let's give Zoli a bit of credit He's making his way into the first team. If he was at Watford he could well be in the team right now.

Aston Villa fans have told me he looks a decent player and they have high hopes of him.

Last Saturday he scored the winning goal againts Sunderland for Villa's Academy in a 1 - 0 win

Here is a quote from his coach last year...

Hajrá stiko!!
This kid scored for the under 19's yesterday, no? i don't quite get playing on these youth teams if you are good. wouldn't one rather play on nb1 first team than on a youth? I mean, just going by Dudas who was on Gyors youth team last yr, now he's trying for the premier league youth teams. If he can't crack the first team at gyor now, what are his chances of ever making the Arsenal first team.

check Aston Villa's reserve team.

Villa: Oleknik; Green, Cahill, Bouma, Bridges; Agathe, Osbourne, Gardner, Berger (Stieber 81); Kabeya (McGurk 64), Sutton (Lund 74). Unused: Henderson.

Not easy for him
Cahill, Bouma, Agathe, Berger, Sutton... are big players

Someone I speak to on another site went to the youth cup game.
He says Zoli has a good left foot and very classy. He is worried that he is not strong enough to cope with premiership defenses but expects him to go on loan I think to toughen him up

Zoli has signed a professional contract with Aston Villa until 2009!!!

Az angol első osztályú labdarúgó-bajnokságban szereplő Aston Villa 2009-ig szóló profi szerződést írt alá Stieber Zoltánnal. A magyar U19-es válogatott játékos eddig is a birminghami klub akadémiáján készült és a tartalékcsapatban szerepelt.

Villa hand deal to Hungarian

Aston Villa have handed a first professional contract to Hungarian youth teamer Zoltan Stieber.

The 18-year-old joined Villa in August 2005 but only on student terms - in line with regulations governing the signing of foreign players.

Stieber has since featured for the Villa reserve team and is now on the periphery of Martin O'Neill's first team.

Stieber admitted he did have fears for his future at Villa, but has now put pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half year deal.

"I'm very happy - my dream has come true," Stieber told Obudai Sport.

"My old contract was due to expire this summer and it appeared as though I would be allowed to start negotiations with other clubs in January.

"I thought my future may have lied elsewhere by the end of February."

I've been reliably informed that Stieber has been superb in the reserves recently. And rumors that he'll be called into the NT.
