Week 5: AZ - Feyenoord

Sunday 12:15

Really early kick-off

Jorgensen is fit but isn't expected to start yet.

The same lot that started against NAC is expected to start.

We've had big away wins against AZ in recent years, but also deserved defeats like when Vincent Janssen had the better of Sven van Beek and ruined his potential move to AS Monaco. Maybe tomorrow will be Sam Larsson's chance to shine and find his feet for us.

Early is an understatement: 05:15 for me!

I want to see Gio give El Hankouri a start to wake up Mr. Larsson.

Now watching PSV destroy ADO 0-5 in Den Haag. The Pissers have a nice group of Central and South Americans who add flair and creativity. Wish Feyenoord would recruit in this hemisphere again.

Ours is still with Jong Feyenoord. He has scored for them, but it's apples and pears comparing us with PSV

PSV's Mexicans are full internationals, while ours is an unknown gamble. Hopefully Sinisterra get his chance though.

Indeed a dream debut for Gutierrez on a big day for Mexico.
There'll be more people in Holland than just me waking up for Canelo - GGG 2

Ffs Jan-Arie is a horror show again. AZ in the lead but I didn't see the goal. Otherwise some good stuff from our attackers but defensively we look very fragile. None of our defenders looks solid defensively and the midfield doesn't cover them enough.

We equalized a moment ago. A good run through midfield by Vilhena who passed to Larsson on the left who made an intelligent pass to Berghuis and boom, goal. I think Larsson has been getting a bit undeserved flak here; he has like 5 or 6 assists already and consistently makes intelligent runs and passes. He does lose the ball a bit too often maybe but on the other hand he also manages to pass defenders and get into dangerous positions. In my view he's way better than what I've seen from Mo thus far. There is a problem on the left though and that is Malacia who, in his current firm, is worthless in attack and defense. He looked promising initially but has looked awful this season; hope he gets past this slump.

1-1 at the half. Started very slow, pedestrian pace, poor passes, and AZ swarmed our hesitant players which ended up with an easy goal off a Berghuis screwup. With a two week layoff you would think our players would come out flying, but NOOOOO. They finally settled down and got some attacks in.

I totally agree, Clocker; the back two are soooo slow and hesitant.

And off the back of my criticism Malacia executes an amazing last-ditch tackle to deny an AZ goal. Any other cb would have been able to intercept the pass that led to the opportunity except for Botteghin who turns with the speed an smoothness of a 200 year old basement door.

And it ends a 1-1 draw. Fair result considering our poor passing percentage and slow build up. We drop two points and, you know, for us to end up 25-30 points behind PSV, we had to start dropping points quicker.

Genco
How has it been with the Mocro girls lately?

As for Feyenoord, more of the same stuff. Slow defence and a not so great midfield either. Vilhena was our best midfielder yesterday. Clasie still isn't the same player as we saw 3 years ago. Guess Ayoub will probably feel hard done by.

That's true but Clasie was also paired with KEA back then; even then, we really felt it when Karim was missing. Ayoub will surely feel hard done by yeah. I know I sound like a broken record but it's just because of my frustration: I really don't think we should be playing Toornstra in midfield since his technique is not good enough for controlling the ball in that position. I don't understand why we won't even try a Vilhena-Clasie-Ayoub midfield. Then there's also Tapia whom I still rate (he was good in the World Cup) but who doesn't get any opportunities whatsoever.

And agreed, Vilhena was the best midfielder we had. He's turning into a pretty good box-to-box midfielder but he still needs to develop his decision-making - he still sometimes plays like he's miles ahead of anyone else, which might have been the case when he was in the youth team but certainly hasn't since...
