2015 MLS Playoffs

So the playoffs are set with the New York Red Bulls winning the Supporters Shield (most points in regular season) and FC Dallas surprisingly winning the Western Conference. The top two in each conference get a bye while 3-6 play in a single match elimination match hosted by the higher seed. The host of MLS Cup will be the team with a higher seed. Already some big matchups in the preliminary round including Sounders vs. LA and a Canadian matchup between in form Montreal and Toronto. In fact, all three Canadian teams made the playoffs

Eastern Conference
1. New York Red Bulls
2. Columbus Crew
3. Montreal Impact
4. DC United
5. New England Revolution
6. Toronto FC

DC United hosts New England on Wednesday night while Montreal host Toronto on Thursday. The winners of each match go on to face either Columbus or New York which will be a two-leg tie

Western Conference
1. FC Dallas
2. Vancouver Whitecaps
3. Portland Timbers
4. Seattle Sounders
5. Los Angeles Galaxy
6. Sporting Kansas City

Wednesday is the big match between Seattle-LA in front of probably 40,000 people, in a matchup which probably MLS secretly wanted to avoid this early with two of the more popular teams p Portland-SKC kick off on Thursday night. FC Dallas and Vancouver receive byes until the next round

Both of last seasons finalists have already been eliminated, DC United had to come from behind to beat New England 2:1 with Jermaine Jones going nuts at the end of the game and almost attacking the referee. Wild game in Seattle which Seattle won 3:2 over LA, four of the five goals were scored in the opening 20 minutes with LA coming from behind twice. Seattle took advantage of a poor clearance to win the match however

Massive disappointment for LA to not even get out the play-in game despite their summer signings.

Easy win for the inform Montreal, Toronto while doing a good job signing Giovinco simply don't have a good enough defense to compete for MLS Cup. Also Altidore had a very disappointing season and its about time for the US soccer media/fans to stop hyping him so much

Eastern matchups are set with the NY Red Bulls playing DC United and Columbus Crew playing Montreal Impact in two-leg playoff

Wow what a day in MLS playoff action

The first game wasn't that great with the Red Bulls beating DC United 1:0 at home to win 2:0 on aggregate. Red Bulls totally deserved to advance as DC United did very little in the two legs, they play such an ugly style of soccer and won't be missed Red Bulls are missing Perrinelle for the rest of the playoffs which is a blow

Columbus needed extra time to beat Montreal after both legs ended with the home team winning 2:1 but Kei Kamara came through in the 111th minute to send Columbus to the eastern conference finals

Seattle loses in penalty kicks to FC Dallas, Dallas were only minutes away from being eliminated after Chad Marshall scored a crucial away goal in the 90th minute but in injury time Walker Zimmermann delivered the series saving goal and the tie went to penalties which Dallas easily won

I'm sure MLS is "thrilled" that both LA and Seattle are out p

What makes FC Dallas even more impressive is their use of homegrown talent, at one point they fielded five players from their academy which is unheard of in today's MLS. Also Fabian Castillo is a good player, called up by Colombia in previous months but he is probably off to Europe this winter
