The World Football Challenge is back.

The summer series of international matches that has become a fixture on the North American soccer calendar, returns in 2012 with the first four clubs already confirming their participation: Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC, Seattle Sounders FC and Toronto FC.

The WFC 2012 calendar of events kicks off with the previously announced matchup between three-time defending US Open Cup champions Seattle and English FA Cup finalists Chelsea at CenturyLink Field on Wednesday, July 18. Packaged tickets for the event are available online
(BUY TICKETS HERE: https://oss.ticketmaster.com/aps/sea...tails/4MTCHPAK).

Chelsea, who are in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League, will also participate in the AT&T MLS All-Star Game on July 25 at PPL Park in Chester, Pa.

Three days later, Rogers Centre in Toronto will serve as the stage for the unprecedented matchup between MLS side Toronto FC and storied English club Liverpool FC, who make their return to the city after last visiting in 2004. Tickets for that match go on sale May 4.

The World Football Challenge is a joint partnership between MLS and sports and entertainment agency CAA Sports.

Additional clubs and matches are set to be revealed at a later date by event organizers.

Champions' Challenge
MLS champs take on recently crowned Spanish champions

Could the fourth time be the charm for the LA Galaxy?

The defending MLS Cup champions will have their fourth crack at the recently crowned La Liga champs Real Madrid when they host the galacticos in a World Football Challenge match on Thurs., Aug. 2 (10:30 pm ET) at The Home Depot Center.

The HDC was the stage for their first-ever meeting back in 2005 when current Galaxy star David Beckham wore Real Madrid's colors in a 2-0 win for the Spanish giants.

The two clubs have also played at the Rose Bowl in 2010 (Real Madrid won 3-2) and at the LA Coliseum last summer (Real Madrid won 4-1) in Southern California.

WFC: Santos Laguna to replace Juventus for Vegas date

a replacement for Serie A champions Juventus in this summer's Herbalife World Football Challenge turned out to be as simple as going right next door.

Mexican giants Santos Laguna have been tapped to do the honors, facing La Liga champs Real Madrid on August 5 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. MGM Resorts International is the title sponsor with Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino acting as the host hotel for the event.

Juventus were forced to withdraw from the tournament when the Italian SuperCopa, which is to be played in Beijing, was moved up from August 19 to August 11.
