J-League Season Postponed Indefinitely

Inter Milan’s Yuto Nagatomo used the high-profile setting of his team’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich on Tuesday to send a message to his countrymen

Officials of Japan’s soccer league on Tuesday postponed all games until mid-April as the country struggled to recover from the string of disasters sparked by last week’s earthquake. On Monday, they had wiped out the J-League’s schedule until the end of March.

“There’s no telling when we can restart the league again,” Shigeru Ibata, the president of the top club Kashima Antlers, was quoted as saying. “The situation is getting worse by the day.”

With the country now facing a potential nuclear catastrophe, it is unclear when the season will resume. In some cities, it is unclear how it will.
