San Jose Earthquakes

San Jose veteran midfielder Bobby Convey was named the MLS Comeback Player of the Year on Wednesday, punctuating a remarkable turnaround year for a player who just two years ago saw a knee injury bring his career to a skidding halt.

Convey beat out fellow nominess Chris Albright of the New York Red Bulls and FC Dallas youngster Brek Shea on the strength of his team-high 10 assists for the Earthquakes this season and a rejuvenated form that helped lead San Jose into the postseason for the first time since their 2008 rebirth.

Though the effort wasn't considered in the voting, Convey also added two goals and an assist in the Earthquakes' series-clinching 3-1 win over the New York Red Bulls last Thursday, pushing them into the Eastern Conference final against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday (9:30 pm ET, FSC).

Just two years ago Convey saw his career in England derailed by the lingering effects of microfracture surgery on his right knee. His time with EPL side Reading came to an end before the 2009 MLS season, when he moved to the US to start 25 games for an Eartquakes team still strugging to find their feet.

Convey, too, had a rough go upon returning to MLS for the first time since his days with D.C. United in 2004. Though he was a regular in the San Jose lineup, the knee injury limited him from becoming fullly fit last season, and he finished with just one goal and two assists as the Quakes missed the postseason

Quakes drop friendly to Leicester City 3-1

MLS side falls to first defeat of England tour; Wondo tallies

LEICESTER, England — The San Jose Earthquakes slipped to a 3-1 defeat on Thursday to a Leicester City outfit peppered with first-team members. Chris Wondolowski scored the lone goal and Ellis McLaughlin missed a late PK for the MLSers.

The disappointing result was compounded by injury scares to midfielder Ramiro Corrales and defender Tim Ward, although the injuries are not thought to be serious.

The result disappointed Quakes head coach Frank Yallop, who said he thought his players struggled playing their third game in as many days. However, he said he understands it's still early days this preseason.

“It’s not about the result right now," Yallop told MLSsoccer.com. "It’s about getting ready for our season.”

Demolition Day

SAN JOSE, Calif. – As the steel jaws of a giant excavator snapped shut Thursday on a chunk of wall from the old manufacturing facility where the Earthquakes hope to one day play soccer, San Jose general manager John Doyle couldn’t help but smile.

For everybody here, all the soccer fans in Northern California, this is a great day,” Doyle said. “We’ve always wanted a place that we could go and watch soccer. We haven’t had that. We’ve been waiting for a long, long time.”

So far this season for the Earthquakes, they've played 17 games and earned 21 points out of them. They're 5-6-6 which is good enoug to get them 10th in the MLS table. This would be good enough to be in the MLS Play-In round, a pre-play-off competition.

San Jose's latest result was a 0-0 draw with the Philadelphia Union at home, on July 9. It was a bit of a dissapointing result seeing as had we gotten all three possible points, we could've stayed in tenth place but we've fallen to eleventh, instead. Our next game is against Columbus Crew on July 16 away from home. Hopefully, we can get a good result out of this one.

It's a long season. Plenty of games left to play.

I think this is the busiest I have ever seen the US Soccer and MLS forum

Yeah, really L4LCL? It's not THAT active in here. And also, nice win against West Brom.

San Jose pulled off a big deal with Toronto FC today. They received forward Alan Gordon, defender Nana Attakora, and midfielder Jacob Peterson. In return, Toronto got Ryan Johnson, allocation money, and an international player spot.

Not a great trade in my opinion.

Are you particularly excited about any of the players SJ received? Gordan is shit. Not sure about the other two. Will Johnson be a big loss? I know Linert (sp?) has been playing a lot more recently for SJ.

Johnson will definitely be a big loss. Personally, I like Nana Attakora. He is a good addition to the defense where we need improvemnet. He got 3 goals with Toronto in 56 CAPS and this is as a defender. He is also capped on the Canadian NT.

Tomorrow, San Jose will take on the Vancouver Whitecaps, at home. I am expecting the full three points from that game with maybe a 2-1 victory.

Oh, I forgot to mention. San Jose had a draw, 0-0, against Columbus. Not bad, considering we were away from home.

San Jose play their game at 7:45 I believe tonight. Can't wait for the game.

Anyways, didn't know where to post this, so I decided to post it here.

Probably could have started a thread, but whatever.

I have no problems with any of the awards really, though I would say the fact that right back Jan Gunnar Solli from Red Bull New York isn't in the list is a joke. Every time I have seen him play he has been fantastic, especially going forward. I love the way he plays.

I probably would've started a thread, but it probably wouldn't have lasted a long time. As for the awards, I think they did a good job on them. I really like thewir surprise player pick, Nick LaBrocca.

Last night, Vancouver got a draw with my San Jose Earthwuakes (), 2-2. Bad result really, considering we were at home and the Whitecaps aren't a great team at all. Both our goals came from Chris Wondolowski while for Vancouver, Eric Hassli scored twice.

Our next game is against away to Real Salt Lake on July 23. I expect at least a draw here.

As for the standings, in the West, we are tied for 7th with Chivas with 23 points apiece. Overall, though, we are tied with Chivas for 10th which is good enough for MLS Play-In round. Pretty much, that round is a round with a single game in each matchup. The matchups are based on seed, so top seed vs. lowest seed, etc. play each other. Winners of each game get into the Play-Offs. The quarterfinals are two-leg aggregate games with winners getting into the semi. The semi is one game with the winner getting to the final. The higher seed gets home in this gae. Finally, the final is one game for all the marbles. The winner is champion.

Just felt like explaining that.

For tomorrow's game, Bobby Convey is doubtful with a left knee contusion. This would be a pretty big loss, seeing as he is the operator of our midfield. I think he should play for the game, but we'll see.

As for the match itself, a preview for the match is ---> ( http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter...quakes/preview ).

Our last match ended in a 1-0 victory for RSL on March 19th. I think the result will turn out differently this time because in the last game, the weatherplayed a big factor.
