Good to see ESPN2 carry more games this year, they even have ads for MLS Thursday Night games which hopefully helps to bring in a bigger audience.

FC Dallas (0-0-1) at Los Angeles (0-0-1)

By SANTOSH VENKATARAMAN, STATS Editor

The new Thursday night television package and expansion for the MLS has created an unusual travel situation for FC Dallas this week.

Dallas begins a grueling four-day road stretch when it tries to beat the Los Angeles Galaxy at the Home Depot Center for the first time on Thursday night.

With the addition of Toronto FC, there are an odd number of teams in the league with 13. That along with the Thursday night television package means there will be occasions when a team has to play twice in a week in order for every club to be in action.

FC Dallas is playing its first three games on the road this year after drawing 2-2 with Real Salt Lake last weekend. After visiting the Galaxy, it travels across the country to face New York on Sunday afternoon.

"I think it was important for us to get something out of Salt Lake building into the next two games," coach Steve Morrow told the official MLS Web site. "The schedule is a little bit crazy for us having to go to L.A. and then flying all the way to New York."

Dallas hasn't won at Los Angeles since a 1-0 victory in the Rose Bowl on Sept. 6, 2000, and has lost all eight meetings at the Home Depot Center since it opened in 2003.

These teams split their four meetings last season, but Los Angeles outscored Dallas 7-2 in its two home wins. Landon Donovan scored three of the Galaxy's goals.

"I think the boys are really relishing going to L.A.," Morrow said. "As a coach, I know that is someplace that we haven't done well in the last few years and I'm looking to put that right."

Dallas star Carlos Ruiz, who spent his first three MLS seasons with the Galaxy, scored the equalizer in stoppage time in the season opener Saturday. The goal came off a mix-up between the Salt Lake goalkeeper and a defender, and helped Dallas salvage a point after a poor performance.

"I think we had a good attitude today, we never let our arms down and kept fighting for the 94 minutes," Ruiz said. "But we are also realistic and know we didn't play good."

Donovan is looking for his first goal of the new season after the Galaxy opened with a scoreless tie at defending MLS champion Houston on Sunday night. The forward's best chance came in the first half on a breakaway, but he was stopped by Dynamo goalkeeper Pat Onstad.

It was a successful debut for Los Angeles goalkeeper Joe Cannon, who made four saves. Cannon was acquired from Colorado in the offseason.

"You have to give credit to the rest of our guys; our defense really played incredible tonight," Cannon said. "I think if we give efforts like this, night in and night out, we'll be one of the better teams and a tough team to beat overall."

Los Angeles is 8-3-0 in home openers.

CARSON, Calif. (AP) -- Carlos Ruiz and Kenny Cooper scored in the first half to lead FC Dallas to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday night.

With the victory, Dallas (1-0-1) broke a 13-game winless streak on the road against the Galaxy (0-1-1) that began in 2001 and included 11 consecutive losses.

Ruiz gave Dallas a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute by converting the team's first penalty kick in two years. The penalty kick was called after Galaxy defender Ty Harden committed a handball in the penalty area.

Cooper made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute. After Ramon Nunez took a 31-yard free kick, Cooper beat the Galaxy's Nate Jaqua and kicked a rising 7-yard shot from the left side of the penalty area.

Galaxy rookie Robbie Findley broke the shutout in the 86th minute with a 7-yard header inside the right post off Landon Donovan's corner kick.

Los Angeles had two chances within two minutes to take an early lead. In the 12th minute, Jaqua's diving header off Ante Jazic's left-wing crossing pass sailed over the crossbar.

Then in the 14th minute, Dallas goalkeeper Shaka Hislop blocked Chris Albright's 5-yard shot from point range. Hislop started for Trinidad and Tobago in the 2006 World Cup.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- Taylor Twellman scored two first-half goals to lead New England to a 4-0 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday night in the Revolution's home opener.

Twellman, who has 13 career multiple-goal games, took a cross from Adam Cristman and beat goalie Greg Sutton in the 12th minute. Six minutes later, he headed home a cross from Steve Ralston.

Shalrie Joseph scored in his return to the lineup after missing the season opener with a right calf strain. The midfielder, who has requested a trade because of stalled negotiations on a contract extension, made it 3-0 on a penalty kick in the 61st minute.

Andy Dorman finished off the scoring for New England (1-1). ^Wizards 4, United 2=

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Eddie Johnson had a goal and two assists to lead Kansas City.

Michael Harrington, Sasha Victorine and Scott Sealy also scored against D.C. United, who have opened the season with back-to-back losses.

The Wizards scored three minutes into the game when Johnson slipped a sharp pass inside the goal area to Harrington for an easy score.

Minutes later, Kansas City made it 2-0 when Johnson sent a pass from Scott Sealy toward midfielder Victorine, who quickly put the ball into the net. ^Crew 0, Real Salt Lake 0=

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Crew goalkeeper Andy Greenbaum denied late scoring chances by Real Salt Lake and Columbus played its second consecutive scoreless tie.

Mehdi Ballouchy and Jeff Cunningham pressured Greenbaum in the final minutes, peppering the goalkeeper with shots from both sides of the field.

Newly acquired Freddy Adu drew cheers early in each half from the home fans. The teenage midfielder, a regular starter for the first time in his career after being traded from D.C. United in the offseason, dribbled around defenders to distribute lead-in passes and got off a quick shot on goal in the second half.

Major League Soccer Roundup, June 23

Associated Press

FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (AP) - Midfielder Andy Dorman scored two goals and the New England Revolution beat Toronto FC 3-0 in Major League Soccer on Saturday.

The Revolution shut out Toronto for the second time this season, and ended their longest winless stretch of the season at three games.
Dorman gave New England the lead in the 13th minute and then scored his fifth goal of the season in the 81st minute. Patrick Noonan also scored in the 33rd.

In other matches, FC Dallas beat Colorado 1-0 to deal the Rapids their fourth straight loss, Real Salt Lake downed D.C. United 2-1 and a 10-man Columbus Crew held out the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-2.

Juan Toja scored his fourth goal of the year as FC Dallas beat the Rapids and Commerce City, Colorado.

Toja had a clear look at the net after Clarence Goodson's initial shot was saved by Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul. Coundoul was prone when the ball skittered to his right where Toja waited just feet from the net.

Colorado hasn't beaten FC Dallas in regular season play in more than two years.

At Salt Lake City, Robbie Findley scored twice in his Real Salt Lake debut, snapping a 15-game personal winless streak dating back to last season.

Findley, who was traded to Real Salt Lake on Thursday from the Los Angeles Galaxy, scored first when he beat D.C. United goalkeeper Jay Nolly in the 41st minute. The rookie beat Nolly again in the 50th minute.

Luciano Emilio scored in the 87th minute for D.C. United on a pass from Brazilian midfielder Fred.

D.C. United had its seven-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Chad Marshall, Ned Grabavoy and Alejandro Moreno scored and Columbus played one man down for more than 60 minutes at Carson California to earn the victory over Los Angeles.

Marshall gave the Crew a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute with a header off Guillermo Barros Schelotto's free kick. Schelotto earned his sixth assist to tie for the league lead.

Moreno gave the Crew a 3-1 lead in the 84th minute with a diving header off Jason Garey's corner kick.

Complex and long enough passwords, that consists of random string of alphabet and numerical characters, are almost impossible to be stolen and misused.
