Who would write the superior novel?

Who would write the superior novel?

A person who has read every novel and poem and play and philosophy of some import, writers A-Z, from cultures/nations A-Z,

Or

A person who has never conversed with another human being, having grown up in a woodland that has never known another human being, and this person - when not foraging - has spent almost every single minute, introspecting.

Both persons are gifted with quality intellect, and driven with equal fervor, to produce a novel.

What say you?

These are not realistic human archetypes, but I say my vote goes to the latter.

Eh? The latter clearly can't write any human interaction, in fact the only thing he should be able to write is about his own life. Actually, how would he even be able to write or even talk?

the first person on the other hand has a good knowledge on what works in writing, but that says nothing about the persons ability to create or write something interesting. Still, knowledge is king when writing.

Having no preconceived notions and all that assorted baggage can obviously push forward into the unknown and unexplored avenues, especially since the latter person by not reading any single word ever is by the very definition - UNBIASED.

the bolded works in his favor in the extreme IMO.

it is presumed he can write; wether or not he can or does talk is irrelevant, let's say

agreed... god knows what ideas or sentiments or tones or intellectual structures this man could conceive...

people sometimes talk about how, should we encounter aliens one day.. so many things about them/ their very existence could be something no human has ever imagined or experienced... something similarly "exotic", say, would be produced by the woodsman IMO

He only have knowledge about living and surviving in a forest. I am sorry, but that does not come close to the gathered knowledge from human interaction, education and having read a shit-load of books.

I mean what kind of knowledge to you think this man would have that would "obliterate the first mans"?

I think you need to explain this further.

I would say they would most likely be very banal. And I don't think we could even talk about "intellectual structures" in his case.

Aliens would be a people and a culture that grew up with some sort of social interaction and if we meet high level knowledge. I get the feeling that this "forest man" you talk about is more like a higher being in your mind. Someone who can take time and fantasize up complex things basically from nothing.

he would be more akin to a sheltered child in this aspect.

If I was looking for a survival guide I'd go with Mr Woodsman. Hunting advice and tips on edible plants may be useful, maybe he's even learnt how to make fire.

Hearing his theories on Sun-gods etc might also be interesting.

yes, the problem is the latter likely can't write any readable prose at all as he simply doesn't have the language skills for it. if "he has never known another human being" as boban puts it he wouldn't even have basic language models which in turn would mean his abstract thinking is undeveloped and he couldn't introspect the way people grown up in a society could. Although he could learn to do it over time.

there is such a case from France BTW: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_of_Aveyron

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? And….it’s the football, that’s the football, something happened. Everything is something happened. - Fatih Terim

Plus, a novel is something so artificial and an inherited form. He would probally sing and download porn (romanian or not) before writting a single chapter..

Kat: "JCam, you may quote me now, but you are quite wise".

Kat: "JCam knows, we do not doubt in him".

Sorry, should have made it clearer in OP: It is assumed that the woodsman can write, formulate paragraphs, knows when to use a semicolon etc etc... Remember, these are not realistic human archetypes/persons...

imo, the woodsman would write with such a freshness and depth and wonderful novelty, about his own self, that reading it, one would think to him or herself, for example: 'My god, it's like I am being introduced to the concept of a human being for the first time...'

let's say for instance that, when Hemingway wrote one of his novels, all the thinking involved, all the exploring of ideas, it was like Ernest's spirit flew out of his body, hurtled up into the sky, and circled Earth a few times, and even once or twice visited the moon...

now the woodsman, given his solitude and his incredible proclivity for introspecting, before he has written one word of his novel, his spirit has already traversed our solar system, hurtled about and around the milky way, and then flown to the next galaxy all together...

It's a trick question. What does "superior" even mean?

This becomes even more crucial when we discuss bestsellers, like MarieL's favourite book, "50 Shades of Grey".

AbuGadanzieri would write the superior novel. He's also by far the best writer on xtratime.org.

Just look at this poem for example:
