The Book(s) I Hate! Thread

Sure, we've done the books we like and love to death, so how about listing the book(s) you hated with a passion.

Mine are the following:

Interview With A Vampire by Anne Rice

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

I am philosophically opposed to book burning, but if either of these were to somehow slip into the fireplace, I wouldn't cry.

You know the scene it's very hum-drum
And my favorite song's entitled "Boredom"...

I am favorable to book burning. In fact, If you give 5 dollars I will burn any book you sent to me by mail, record and show you the video.

I've been meaning to give ol' Ayn a try, but I hear it's a rather difficult read.

Hehe I'd list Umberto Eco's "History of Beauty" -- which reads like a financial obligation of the author to his publisher -- had it not belonged to a set that also includes "History of Ugliness," a sumptuous read.

Now I can cuddle up in a cold night, hands free, and comb through each and every line of "History of Ugliness" while resting it against the hefty "History of Beauty."

I think that was Eco's plan when he signed the contract with Rizzoli.

5 bucks and we have a bonfire. We can also write to a letter to Eco asking kindly to him not publish any book with their articles he have been writing lately for some magazines around the world...

Animal Farm by George Orwell. I can't stand the book, the cartoon/movie, or the pigs.

Of course, by contrast, 1984 is awesome...

Don't lament the treachery of time;
long have dogs danced over the carcasses of lions.

Don't suppose that their dancing raises them above their masters;
for dogs remain dogs, and lions remain lions.

Insult me as you wish;
For my silence to the depraved is a response.

It's not that I have no response, but;
A lion does not reply to a dog.

Seven Brothers by our "national author" Aleksis Kivi. Yes, it's the first significant novel written in Finnish, but it's utter shite. Can't stand it.

Why not? Animal Farm is fantastic. As well as 1984 of course.

Clearly you are a wonderful woman and a special human being. Add the My Bloody Valentine factor and I'd say I'm positively enamored.

Tim.... Rand is spiritual pollution, and I don't want that for you. You have that marked, healthy, libertarian tint that could be corrupted into something far more sinister .

Never in my life have I been more bored. I believe this is the reason I genuinely hate New England Patriots even without having the slightest interest in American football.

I need a digital camera for this, so I can give you 1 dollar for every object mailed. the other 2 dollars are meant to buy meat and beer. If prosperity abounds, we can start to accept DVDs, CDs, and even hardrives filled with useless stuff. Soon, there will be a Churrascaria named Destruction Central: have a good lunch and destroy what you hate most as promotion...

Be happy, if I remember correctly then it was rather a thin book (yes, I'v read it) If I continue the "national epos" line then Tammsaare Tőde ja Őigus " (Truth and Justice, I suppose), 4 heavy books, I was literally crying to read it and there was no way out since it was obligatory school's reading. I would burn them happily.

And then Da Vinci Code.

Thanks for reminding me.

Norwegian classics. All of them. I don't care if there's something in there that doesn't suck, it's worth killing just to make sure none of the garbage survives. I wish language teachers would be more honest about literature. "What about our own literature, teach?" "It sucks, not worth our time."

If I see another Ibsen play I'm going to buy an axe.

I would burn Shakespeare too, the hilariously over publicized mediocrity, except that it is the occasional comic relief.

La Juve? Lasciamo perdere.

Oy.... that's harsh... to the point of it sounding somewhat bizarre and... dare I say it... outrageous . Harold Bloom would have you burn in hell, that's for sure!
I agreed with you once though - for 20 minutes at least - in high school when I drew "The Tempest" for my English examination.

anything by Chuck Palaihinuvkckskblck

particularly the abysmal "Choke" which I believe is now a movie

that I will never watch

a book where each and every character is some sort of faeco/paedo/ sexo-phillic, incontinent, drooling mess who forces steaks down their own throats in restaurants for a living

absolute sh*te

I wouldn't call it crap but I also completely fail to understand why is it considered one of American 20th century classics

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes?
