Book groups/clubs

I'm thinking about joining one, as I enjoy talking about books and it would be an opportunity to meet people. Is anyone involved, or has been?

Don't like the idea of them myself (don't like deadlines or been told what books to read) but lots of people enjoy them so go for it:smileani: Surprised know one ever setup an online club on this forum actually.

Of course I understand you and it's possible I could end up feeling the same way. What gives me confidence is that when I'm immersing myself in something and I know someone else who is doing as much... it's an attraction for me to attempt to gauge their thoughts on it.

I suppose there could be a pressure to finish it, then again perhaps you're allowed to show up and say "I didn't get through it, thought it was shite".

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, from your posts on here you seem to have a much more broad range of reading than me, also choosing books in these clubs is very democratic so its not like you never have any say in what your reading.

I once joined a book club. Although the group decided a book I was not interested in, it was a nice experience. I guess a book club will encourage me to read books again

If I look at things that way, I can say: I was born too early to be happy. But birth is one of the many things we do not get to choose. It is part of our destiny."

Sorry for the delay.

El Beatle, my plans have rather fallen off the radar, but you're not to blame, don't worry. As to why, I can't frame it so precisely - I just feel my idea, my motivation, has slowly drifted away. Actually no, scratch that - I have been unable to find a club which is near to our residence. For varying reasons, the city is too much for us.

dabdob - my interests are wide and alter frequently. Steph reckons I'm curious by nature which I'd definitely agree with. As such, what kind of books am I into? Er, to start with, it would be enough to pique my interest if a story was to be set in Japan or Iceland.
